    What is this?

If they are itchy, I would suspect an allergy or something like insect bites.
As a first aid remedy Piriton is safe for dogs. Check the dose for your dog's weight on Google. (Don't tell a chemist that it is for a dog - they are not allowed to sell for animals). This should help to keep her comfortable until your vet appointment.

Carole does it have to be Piriton or any other antihistamine?

Benedryl is also OK but I do not know if it can be bought OTC.

There are others, and you can sometimes get the generic ingredient Chlorphenamine Maleate. Somewhere on Prof. Google there is a chart of antihistamines that are safe for dogs. I always say Piriton by name because is is easier for folk to remember a single product, and I am 100% confident that it is OK.

I should add the rider, please check with your vet if the dog is on other medication.

That goes without saying, both for yourself with your GP and your Vet for your dog/cat. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is what Tikva was given at the surgery [by IM] but the amount went by her weight.

The anti-histamine I have on prescription, Cetirizine, is not available OTC at the prescription strength and according to Ram, is definitely not suitable for dogs.

Did you have the appointment? Is she okay?
