    Eye problems in Weimaraners

Hello people, I have a longhaired weim girl with yellow eyes. Two years ago she developed a white covering over he right eye. The vet says its calcium-lipids in origin. Then I found out its genetic since other dogs from the same mom have developed this one, too. Wondering if anyone else has experience with these.

    :039:Hello,
Welcome to the forum. I haven't had experience with this but there is always someone on here that can help.
All I can say is if you are majorly worried talk to the vet about how you don't think it is calcium lipids but something genetic. Also you could try get in touch with the other people whose Weims have developed this too. Talk to them about what they think it is or talk to the breeder. If they've had Weims for a long time then they might know something about it. Is it possible you could post a picture of her eyes? It might help to come to a conclusion.

@Koni has included a photo on her Introductory post.
I had a quick read up about this problem on vetinfo, and was a little alarmed to find that hypothyroid Beagles were named as being common sufferers - which is what my Eddie has, though he doesn't have corneal lipidosis. Apparently this is due to hypothyroid dogs frequently having high cholesterol levels, - perhaps a clue to watch the fat levels in the diet. Has your vet given you any guidance, or suggested a referral to an eye specialist?
