    Any Spinone owners here?

I am hoping to become owned by a Spinone:)
My name is on a waiting list for a late Spring pup.
I was wondering if there were any Spinone owners posting here that might have some "pearls of wisdom" to impart:lol: :?:
Looking forward to hearing from you.

I don't have the pleasure of owning a spinone, but one of my sister's has four and another has one.

Upsides : they are all lovely dogs, great temperaments, very laid back and soppy, not a bad bone in their body.

Downsides: a beard (which drools water after a drink and gets food trapped in), they seem to shed hair all year round.

Where is your spin coming from?

Hopefully from Cornwall, I have yet to be vetted:lol:
I'm hoping to go down as soon as the days lengthen , can't spare any time away from the Sanctuary at the moment.

The breeder is Jan at Kavarduh? Spinone.
Where did your sisters get theirs:?:
I was aware of a slobber problem but my Retriever is very good at slobber and my JRT's shed constantly . As you might imagine I'm not at all houseproud and have an excellent vac

One of my sister's spins came from Kevardhu - if you google Sh.Ch. Kevardhu Newl with Sophalba you should be able to find pics of my sister's dog :)

I met my first Spin many years ago , she belonged to a friend and I fell in love with the breed . I promised myself that one day I would have one .
I am not getting any younger so it's now or never:lol:
I'll google the info and take a look at your sisters dog.
Thanks for taking the time to reply:)

I have a friend who has Spins and I know a couple of them locally too. I also groom one. They are lovely dogs, soppy and playful. I couldn't cope with the beard, personally, but other than that they are fab. My fave gundog!

My Dood has a beard and I usually trim it off for all the above mentioned reasons:lol:
When he finishes dinner he will usually sidle over and wipe his mouth on the nearest available human:roll: ...lovely.
Am looking forward to getting my Spin pup, I'm hoping he will be an active companion for Ambrose my dood.

Our friends breed spins, they are lovely dogs. They have about 9 of them (along with about 6 terriers) they all live in the house and they never have a problem with aggression or anything. They are the softest, soppiest dogs! We used to look after one of them, called Tango, who took a great shine to my grandma. She had great experience with a spinone beards because Tango loved rubbing his face in her lap! He also used to drink her cup of tea (leave it full of slobber, grass etc..) and try and sit on her lap  I'm sure you will have great fun with your puppy!

Spinone are a lovely breed. They do need thorough socialisation as they can be inclined to be a little sensitive and spooky. They can be a bit full-on as pups but they mature into the most fantastic laid back, sociable companions.

Make sure any pups are from hip-scored and CA tested parents.

As has been mentioned a slobber cloth is a must, and as a large, rustic breed they can bring a fair amount of the outside inside. They need a good free-run each day but are then content to mooch about in the company of their people.

After many years of waiting I have my girl and can never imagine being without a spinone.

I bet you cannot wait to bring your pup home. The kevardhu dogs are lovely.

Thank you! ....Your girl is beautiful, how old is she,?
I am hoping to have a dog pup and have chosen Orange /white,should there be an Orange and white pup.
I must admit I found it difficult to decide on colour as I love the roans too . I'm not really fussed on colour, just love the breed.
We can offer the pup an active life style...we group walk on a regular basis with our Lab x Sp and GR.
Kevardhu pups are all hip scored and CA tested and Jan has been producing wonderful dogs for 28 years so I know I have chosen a caring and responsible breeder.
As mentioned previously I have yet to go down to Cornwall to meet Jan and the dogs , only then will she confirm for definite that we are good enough to buy one of her pups:lol: ....I'm hoping so...watch this space:lol:

I did own Spin's for many years  my 1st coming from Janet at Kevardhu many moons ago, 1992 and my last passing away a couple of years ago.
As rw3272 has said socialise your pup well and he will grow up level headed ours did all sorts from obedience to agility (never there best subject) and even a go at flyball.
We also showed them getting to crufts many times and my kenue Raffael (who i lost in 2007) takeing top show puppy in breed 1994.
They are the best companions and if you dont mind flying slobber and the fact they are ever the opertunist (i had one who could open the fridge :-o and ripped the bottom out when we put a fridge lock on it  )
They will take as much work as you can give them but equaly will be happy in front of a fire or rayburn as in our case.
A good book to have is The Italian Spinone by Carolyn Fry .... only because my dogs are in it  on page 95, 2 in the group are mine  and 176 the roan with a towel on his head  it was a very hot summer.
I do hope you enjoy your baby  shall look forward to your pics when he comes home....

Thanks for the recommended reading matter:) ...I will order it if only to see your dogs:lol:
I think the Spin must have a similar personality to Ambrose my Lab XSP. He is one of lifes opportunists...never misses a trick
We have not one but two safety gates leading to the kitchen, he can open most of them  , he is also a counter surfer:lol:
We have become a much tidier family since aquiring Ambrose sixteen months ago.
I will most certainly bore you all to death once my pup arrives:lol:
