No they are not. Azz has one. I think they are gorgeous dogs.

Are you allowed to sell pets on gumtree?

They normally sell for around 600/800.

They're not listed on the DDA.

Unfortunately they do attract the wrong sort of owner (as does any large powerful breed).

I would never breed my dog as I would be too concerned about finding suitable homes - I wouldn't let 90% of people own one!

I would also be very careful buying any 'new' breed, because many are inbreeding (in an effort to reinforce type) but that of course could end up reinforcing genetical problems too.

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love Rocky - but I wouldn't get a Presa again and I don't recommend one for 99.9% of dog owners. You just have to be 'extra' careful about so many things.

    Extra careful of their joints
Extra careful of other irresponsible owners
    Extra careful of their socialisation
Extra careful they don't knock small kids over
Extra careful they don't get 'spoit'
Extra careful they get fed a good diet
Extra careful they are well stimulated
Extra careful they don't chew the whole house

    etc
    etc

Don't get me wrong! Rocky is the bestest dog in the whole world, I've worked really hard to do my best for him and I don't begrudge any of it - but it takes a lot of commitment and I just want an easy life with my next dog

It does also make me worry about other owners of large bull breeds as I wonder if they really put as much in? I'm lucky I work from home and was able to spend so much time on his training/upbringing.

Are they really only £600 - £800  i see an ad once for £2000 and thought that was the going rate

I think a lot of people who owns large breeds dont realise how much hard work it is. You have done a great job with Rocky he is gorgeous

    How old is he? :)

£1000 does seem a bit steep for a Presa, the litter I were looking at before I brought my AB were £750..I don't doubt for one second though that people actually do pay it. It amazes me that some people still charge £1000 and over for AB puppies, I wouldn't pay it and I didn't almost five years ago! :)

azz, do you have any pictures you could post. I would love to have a look.

I think i came across these dogs when looking for a pup months ago (not 100% sure it was the same type of dog though). Have to say the adverts did seem to sell them as a "hard mans dog" if i am thinking of the same dog and i thought it would be too much for me to handle. Which, by your post i may have been right. What made you choose this type of dog - out of interest.

I own 2 Presa Canario's and wouldn't change a thing, they are smart and quick learners...My Presa Canario's don't chew up my house both are indoor dogs...I never cropped their ears I found that to be cruel, most people only crop their ears to make them look meaner...Now that's sad...

I love Presa's. They get a bad rap most of the time, One idiot lady on another forum was saying 99% of them are too crazy to own. I dont see any difference really between Presa and a performance ab.

My Presa's aren't crazy, they are very laid back, love to be with the family regardless of what we are doing...The lady your talking about that says 99% of them are crazy probably hasn't even seen a Presa never mind owned one...All Presa owners will tell you how smart they are, they learn very quickly, at least mine do...Right from when they were 3 months old they've been in obedience training which is important with this breed...A Crazy owner has a Crazy Dog (HAHAHA), that's what I think anyways...I think all the bully breeds get a bad rap, it's the owner not the dog...Not to long ago here in Vancouver we had a guy living in his van with 6 pitbulls, he would let them out to roam freely for exercise...They attacked people and killed a little dog, he was eventually caught and lost all his dogs...The SPCA had to destroy some of them, but I think two were rehabilitated , it was the owner - not the dogs fault, if he had them in a contained yard where they couldn't harm other people or other dogs then this would not of happened...There are people that just shouldn't own a dog, don't you agree??? That woman your talking about needs to research bully breeds to find the answer out for herself - It's The Owners - Not The Dogs!!!

I think with 99% of dogs, it's pretty much how they're raised - presas are stunning dogs :D
