That is NOT a reason to breed crossbreeds! Are your dogs health tested? Have you got their OFA patella and CERF eye test results? Still.. even if both dogs are healthy I still don't see a reason to try and create a new breed? Are they somehow special?:017: There is enough crossbreeds and mutts in dog rescues already:-(

Well said. I love crosses and mongrels but there's no need to purposely breed them! In fact there are so many dogs being killed or in desperate need of a loving home all over the world that you could argue that there is no need to breed dogs at all at the moment!

If you want something different then find a small breed dogs rescue near you and I'm certain you'll find all sorts of different dogs waiting for a home.....even litters of puppies that have been bred accidentally or on purpose by people thinking along similar lines to you.

Not a good idea, unless you have homes already for them and have health tested etc.

Also having seen hairless crosses before have a thought to coat type and skin, because the ones I saw all had skin problems with thick coats that shed all the time. Were on medication for the skin problems all their lives, vet said the hairless gene was the most likely to have causes it.

    What's a "hairy hairless crested"?

How can it be hairy and hairless?

Isn't there a forum member that used to post that had a hairless type pedigreee dog? X-chlo or something like that?

I think basically not all 'hairless' are actually born bald as coots. Some are hairy, I guess a bit like a ridgeback without a ridge

'The hairy hairless can have a single coat all over, or portions that are double coated. Their teeth generally look like the hairless (jutting forward lower canines - "tusks", and missing premolars), but otherwise can easily be mistaken for a powderpuff (powderpuffs have a double coat all over)

As for x breeding your chi with your chinese... really? Money truly is the root of all evil (well the majority of it!) Fancy somehting different? Get a goldfish

To posters regarding the 'hairy hairless crested' I believe the op is referring to the furred or 'powderpuff' version of the Chinese crested. And yes, powderpuff is the proper name for them!

This post has made me quite cross though, either breed powderpuff Chinese cresteds or smooth coat chihuahuas AFTER carrying out the appropriate DNA screens and others tests for the breed.
To breed two dogs of different breeds together just because is disgusting and greedy.
Bearing in mind the chihuahua is a toy and a tiny toy at that, how exactly do you propose to deal with common life threatening issues common to toy puppies, hypoglycaemia for instance?
What if the resultant puppies are too big to birth and your bitch dies?
What if your bitch needs a Caesarian and subsequently dies?
How exactly do you plan to palm off the pups?
For a good few hundred pounds I imagine, will you question prospective owners, do home checks, doubt it.
I'd love to know what would happen if someone bought one of your pups and couldn't keep it x number of months down the line?
Hmm, let me guess, well I imagine once you've taken this poor persons money it'll end up in rescue which are full to breaking point as it is, even though you bred it so really you should be taking full responsibility!
Would the pups be socialised properly?
    When would they be leaving?
Toys should go at 12 weeks, 8 weeks is the minimum but I strongly suspect you'll fob them off at 6 leaving the new owners to deal with its bite inhibition and poor body language reading skills.
    Disgusting.

Sorry Tangutica, you just crack me up
You must have the same strange sense of humour as I do.

My 2 little crossbreeds are both accidents but so glad they happened as I love them to bits.
But Alfie is a nervous wreck with wonky teeth and Tia was born with an umbilical hernia and 2 huge inguinal hernias, one at each side and almost the full width of the top of her back legs. She also has slight entropia. I will never know for certain but their problems could all be down to the accidental matings and neither parents being screened.
To be honest it's not worth the risk as it's the puppies who suffer when things go wrong.:-(

imo with the very rare exception of some working dogs, i.e. Gsd v Malinios, imo no reputable breeder would cross breed.

Maiseymoo - send Tia to me we are soul mates.

I had an umbilical hernia from about birth to 4yrs old. Have a 'repaired but gone wrong' abdominal incisional hernia.

I was obviously a 'dodgy cross' cannot now remonstrate with my parents about this as they are both deceased.

A hairy hairless is the most common creasted you see in the show ring, with the mane, plumed tail and feathering on feet and hairless body.A true hairless resembles a small mexican hairless, mostly hairless all over with maybe a few tufts on its head i believe.
