I exchange postcards with people all over the world. Someone sent me a card showing a dalmation and said she'd was tempted to get one but had heard they were difficult to handle. I replied that I didn't have any experience, but from the ones I had met I felt the bitches were much easier than the males. Posted my message, but the word 'bitches' has been replaced with 'Censored.'! First time I've ever posted anything which has been deemed offensive!
Not quite the same but I once sent a telegram to my twin with one word "Hb2us" which was not delivered, and had a visit from two gentlemen flashing badges and ID. They thought I might be a spy or something and that I had been trying to send a coded message.
Well I suppose it might have seemed a bit suspicious to send just a short telegram from anywhere at any time, although my twin would have known what it meant... ...especially as I tried to send it on our birthday!
UUUGH, This can be so annoying I was chatting to my friend who had moved to Texas and she said something about Fed Ex (don't know how we got on the subject). They censored it out because they thought she was trying to say *ex. Do they not know what Fed Ex is? Jane xx
There were, or maybe still are, some fora/messageboards where the swear filter will not even permit asterisks so s*x would be censured. The craziest was the BBC Food Board - sorely missed but the BBC closed all their messageboards, one by one How is supposed to describe recipes properly when an important ingredient in Thai cooking as well as other Southeast-Asian cuisines, kaffir lime leaves, is censured by the swear filter? Or the recipe for Coq Au Vin was censured if the correct ingredient, a cock chicken, hit the swear filter? To say nothing about the person whose name was Richard who had been known by his nickname since birth but was unable to use it?
