    Grade 1 gundog test

I've been given a guide on how to pass grade one in gundog tests, but I have a few questions.

Is it just for pedigrees, I'm thinking it's more along the lines for Field trials.

And if it isn't just for pedigrees, where do I go to get assessed for it..

    Thanks :)

You are talking about something that was devised by somebody else, these are not KC recognised tests as such.

    Look here

    http://www.thegundogclub.co.uk/

They have a list of training clubs and assessors, not cheap!

Muddiwarx - the gundog club one.

So if I want to I can do it with Louie? I didn't know whether it was something to do with the field tests or anything else :)

    Thank you :)

Yes you can do it with any dog you like, it is not like KC licensed GWT or FT where dogs must a) be gundogs and b) be registered on the Breed Register.

Ok thank you, maybe in the future I'll try it with him. It seems pretty straight forward.

The Grade 1 is very easy and yes, crosses can do it. The classes are very boring though. Obviously you do the same thing every week which is what you will be doing in the test. For the training you get, it's immensely expensive.

You have to do the classes?

I thought it was something you could just opt to do? I don't think I'll bother then..

Hmmm, i've done grades 1 and 2 but they were very slow bringing in the grade 3 for HPR's and TBH, I found far more suitable training elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.

If you've got the guide Aimee, why do you need to pay for the training? I'm pretty sure Louie would be at Grade 1 already, easily.

Oh yes, you can omit the classes and then just take the test if you think your dog can do that particular grade (well, you used to but it has changed hands now). But, again, you have to pay the test fee. TBH, I wouldnt bother. It's nice to have a cert and a rosette, but I wouldnt bother with the Gundog Club again.

How much is it? I couldn't find any prices and I see they are now registering dogs?

Just give me some money and I'll test you ;) lol

Last time I did the Grade 1 (several years ago) it was over £140 for 7x 1 hour sessions and a test on the 8th week.

Oh, forgot to mention that you used to have to first register your dog with the Gundog Club before they could take part in anything. There was a fee for this too.
