For the same reason that the January sales start in December - to make us oldies think we are senile :)

As far as I understand it, not being from the US, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. I could be very wrong though!

So why have online places in China have come up with Black Friday. On a Monday?

Not that I am arguing because it is nice to be able to save a dollar or three, and I have only ever bought things I wanted and needed - and have always been satisfied although I do understand that some people do not think much of buying from China, Which is where most things are made these days.

The only thing I not will buy from there, however, are any treats or chews for Tikva.

I watched a program the other day that proved Black Friday isn't the best time to buy and save money. They compared items from BF and December last year and December (from the first week) was cheaper.
And also Black Friday here in wales is years old, but has nothing to do with shopping. It's the Friday before Christmas when all the factories used to finish for the holidays and everyone would go to town and drink!

I remember two sales - one I went to with Mother and we were outside at around 5am - to buy china from a store that was closing down. I think the whole chain was, and it had hundreds of pieces from a factory that had closed down. I bought well over 100 pieces, probably much more. All matching, for virtually nothing. I honestly do not remember but it was either £4 or maybe £7 - something totally stupid. And you know what? I still have most of it.

What is even more crazy is that some years ago a set of teacup, saucer, and tea plate - the same china, was going for well over £200 on eBay and I have a cupboard full of all sizes and shapes of plates that I have not used for years. And probably never will.

That was one sale - a one off.

But I did used to go to a specialist shoe store in Watford in Hertfordshire yearly and met up with the same woman each time when that store had a sale. Why? Because we both had the same size feet - same length and same very narrow width, but a fraction different shape. So we went in together, had the same helpful salesperson each time, and just said to bring all the shoes in that size on sale. And some were perfect for me and some were perfect for the other person!
