Hi Everyone, My wife and I just purchased our first Akita. We have done a fair amount of research on the breed but still are open to any suggestions if anyone has any! His name is Benji and he is 10 weeks old. He is the best mannered pup I've ever had and he is very smart (potty trained in less than a week!) but also pretty darn stubborn sometimes. Any tips for training, grooming, socializing, etc? Thank you in advance for all your help and I'm looking forward to becoming a part of the community! Here's Benji!
Hello Benji What stunning photos you have taken of a beautiful boy We have Yoji and got him at 2 months. He is now 7 month. From my own experience keep him entertained, not too much activity at the moment as he is quite heavy for his new delicate bones and can do damage to them. Early training with consistency consistency consistency, give him an inch........... Lots of socialising and with that I took advise from @GsdSlave on this topic, it doesn't mean approaching everyone and all dogs you come across, it means taking him to lots of different places so he can hear lots of different things. If he becomes nervous he will stand still/sit down and it's difficult and upsetting for him and you struggle to move him Firm, fair and consistent is on the menu Enjoy him, he's lovely
Hello Benji, You are a very handsome pup and maybe when your a little older I'll teach you how to dig up flowerbeds and how to pick out the plants that are newly sewed so you can ruin them. My humans given up with plants now. Also how to run outside when you've just had a bath to roll in the mud and cover up that horrible shampoo that smells of yucky lemon grass that my human seems to love the scent of. Then you traipse your muddy paws through the house on the newly mopped floors. Its all very fun but then you get told of which is not fun at all. They forgive you after half an our though.
