My old Rott was OK with other dogs, but wouldnt tolerate them being either aggressive or hyperactive around him.He wouldnt attack, but would let out a deep growl as a warning.I did all the right things when he was a pup by socialising him with breeds of different sizes, ages, activity etc,but he just prefered human company to other canines.

Providing they are well socialized and trained, Rotts get along with other dogs just fine. Marius has quite a few dog friends and his two best friends are both male and despite Marius being entire he adores them to pieces. (lots of people think entire males won't play with other male dogs).

In fact he is so soft, he takes the initiative and often lies down to play with smaller dogs, as if to make himself less intimidating.

When we first brought Lola home she growled at him as she was a bit scared (the size difference must have made him look like King Kong:mrgreen: ), but he was so soft with her and she soon ruled the roost.

The only time I have seen him take umbridge with other dogs is when they act aggressively or very dominantly towards him - it is then that he will react back. They are a breed that won't tolerate a dog challenging them.

Here are some shots of him having fun with his dog-pals:grin:

With my sister's dog Taz, she' loony-tunes:mrgreen:

There was a Rottweiller owner in the vets when I went in last week and he commented to me that no-one lets their dogs play or meet with his as they avoid his breed like the plague.

Because of a few incidents we have had lately I thought to myself that must be quite nice but I don't suppose it is really  .

Even though Cherry got attacked by one I don't have a problem with the breed (the owners of this aggressive one were morons) but I do like the ones we see now with tails as they are easier to read.

Very sorry to hear Cherry got attacked by a Rott, I hope she isn't too upset by the experience and trust she wasn't badly hurt? Hope not.:-(

It always saddens me when I hear of the breed I love being involved in aggressive behaviour. As a Rottie owner, I put my heart and soul into ensuring my dog is well behaved and socialized and it really hacks me off when there are people out there who allow (or worse encourage) aggression.

We have it the other way - I always put Marius back on-lead whenever I see a dog in the distance, purely out of courtesy. Sadly, I've lost count of how many times other owners have allowed their dogs to run up to him barking, snapping and yes, sometimes actually biting him. I've even had them joke saying stuff like "he'll have you for breakfast" etc:evil: I get so annoyed as just because he is a large dog, they seem to think it doesn't matter if there dog is nasty to him as it doesn't do any harm so to speak? Wouldn't be that if he was allowed to do the same to theirs though:roll:

We lost Cherry in July sadly. She was hurt badly in that she had a hole bitten out of her side :x Dog had bitten other dogs before too. They had to come to the vets with me and pay the large bill as I made such a scene on the heath. Owner was just walking away and saying it wasn't his dog (it was his Mother's).

Know what you mean about smaller dogs and letting them do what they like too. I like small dogs too as I used to have Cairns and I guess you do too as you have a French Bulldog as well as Marius. We often used to get small dogs running up to Parker and snapping or growling and the owners would think it is funny as Parker was a lot bigger. They would say inane things like "he thinks he is a Rottweiller!". I let the pet corrector spray do the talking if it happened again as Parker is a sweetheart and wouldn't retaliate.

He has a quite sensible approach to confrontations-if it is something small, be a "gentleman" and ignore it, if it is a big dog be sensible and submit and if it is something your own size stick up for yourself!
