Whats it like living with a Shih Tzu

I just need to know the general idea of living with a Shih Tzu as I have one coming to stay for a weekend at the end of the month and a week in August. Never looked after a small dog - not a particular small dog fan.

So generally - except for watch your step - what are the rules when there is a little dog around. She's still a pup btw.

We have half a shih-tzu and she's never been treated like a small dog ..She can hold her own and used to be quite friendly with everyone..

    Used to be?

Ah, just wondering how she'll fair with 3 larger dogs, not looking forward to the snoring.

Like the "watch your step" bit. Parker stood on someone's Shih Ztu puppy on the park as he just didn't see it! How embarrassing!

Someone at work has one and she says it is a very nice little dog and good with her children. They look quite similar to Lhasas but I wonder if they are the same temperament? All the Lhasas I have met have been incredibly stubborn and wilful! They look so cute they get away with it though!

the only thing i know about Shih Tzu 's is that i find it funny when people try there best to pronounce Shih Tzu with a silent T, so not to be rude.

Shihs are big dogs in small dog's clothing. They're a lot easier to handle than Lhasas who are indeed wilful!Shihs live to please!
They're my absolute favourite of the small breeds and I've had quite a few of them over the years, giant characters every one!
Unfortunately for me they have always been extremely easy to home and the rule here (with rare exceptions) is that if a good home can be found then it is taken.Rescue ones come up occasionally, usually either ex puppy farm bitches or those whose owners neglected the coat.
You'll have fun with your visitor and unless your own dogs have DA issues:)lol: ) I don't see a problem with it muddling in happily.

My friend has one and it is lovely and plays with all the dogs regardless of their size. It is not a yappy dog but not sure if this is the case for all. I think you will enjoy:grin:

We have a male who is dog aggressive but this is what happened when she came round to my parents for an hour whilst they went out (socialisation)

This is the male who will take on anything in the streets and through the safety of his gate

That picture is so funny and you could write so many captions for it. Methinks he is trying to pretend he is invisible:grin:

Hi, I just would like to share my experience. I live with a shih tzu poodle Fluffy, a labrador, Hummer and a dachshund named Doggie. I consider myself lucky that my dogs are not temperamental. Fluffy, gets along pretty well with Doggie (who is also female). Sometimes, she likes to pick on Hummer's food. While he barks at her, it never really resulted to aggression.
