An example of how wonderful Ram, my vet is. I think it was during the 2012 Gaza conflict, Operation Pillar of Defence, that Lilach, his wife came round to sit with me a while because of where I live, and Pereg being epileptic. She came a couple of times by herself and then Ram came with her a few times after he had finished his main shift. Not just to make sure that Pereg was OK but that I was.

    What vet does that?

During the 2014 conflict, Operation Protective Edge, Ram telephoned me every day to make sure we were OK.

    What vet does that?

As the regulars on Breedia probably know, I adore Ram [he is three-months older than my daughter] and Tikki will leap into his arms when she sees him next week [she needs a bit of help as she is only small and he is a big guy!] but I always get my hugs first. :D

He never saw Pereg have a tonic-clonic Grand Mal seizure but he once spent nearly an hour on the telephone asking me questions about how one started, what happened, how long did this part last, then what and how long - no wonder I have clocks on every wall in every room in my home [bathrooms excepted]. But he knew enough to ask what he needed to know, and knew enough to accept my timings and descriptions.

I had, before, telephoned him and said it was time, and he always said "Juli, wait another hour and then call me". The last time when I called back, he was here within half an hour. And took a very peaceful and finally epilepsy-free Pereg with him, wrapped in a new knee blanket that was slung over the back of my chair.

I must have asked him numerous times, why he was wearing his scrubs when he came that night, as he had been off duty since 3pm - and I still do not remember what he told me.

Oh how I wish you could find a vet like Ram for your dog. A vet who truly cares.

    Juli xx

If he's all cleared of worms now that will certainly help. Look up recipe for satin balls and you can add that to help with weight gain.

I will look that up. He is doing so much better now, when I got him he was 14.9 lbs, today he is 24 lbs and he has gotten taller. We have an appointment for another fecal in two weeks. He is so great and I appreciate all of the feedback.

Hello April - it sounds like Kikea is doing well as that is a good weight gain. How did you get on with the second vet you said you were going to take him to?

As he is obviously growing, and getting taller - and gaining weight, it will probably not show on his body size so he might still look rather thin. But slowly, slowly, as the weight goes on it will show in his body size - but he has to finish growing first. Are you still weighing him weekly?

He sounds adorable - do you have any current pictures of him? It would be lovely to see how he is getting on. :)

Actually it was interesting, the owner of the first vet called me, apologized. We had an hour long conversation and she was wonderful she was surprised about how I was treated and asked me to speak at one of their meetings about patient and family care (I am a nurse)....but I did go to another vet, they were great and super proactive, but so was I. Here are some pictures from a trip to Prescott, Az

April - those pictures of your bubba look like he is doing great and it was a pleasure to see them. Thank you for putting them up for us.

I am glad to hear that the second vet was good, and yes, it was also good that the owner of the first vet called you, listened, and hopefully will make sure that the first vet just does not dismiss owners as you as just a fussy fur-kid owner. Been there but with a human baby "fussy and over-protective mother" according to the specialist who had first seen her [and my baby and I were flown to Stockholm - she being on high traction in her cot] to take part in a discussion about hips.

Apologies from the owner of the first vet surgery are all well and good, but if you are happy with the second vet, then stick with him/her.

Hopefully all will go uphill now for Kikea!

Lots of cuddles for him xx
