    St Bernard jumps up

    Hi,

I have just bought a 2 year old st bernard male. We have 5 kids aged between 7 and 16 and we have the problem where he will jump up sometimes. This wasnt too bad with me but my wife and kids cant really handle that.

I was wondering if there was any advice to help us out as we really dont want to send him back :(

    Many thanks,

    Robin.

You dont say how long you have had him, the jumping up is usually down to excitement.
When he goes to jump, firmly say off, turn your back and fold arms, ignoring him completely, after a few times of this, he should get the idea, the whole family has to be consistent, reward correct behavior.
    Or teach him the sit.

If you have only just got your Saint, I'm sure this will be the excitement of everything being new to him. Be firm, as @GsdSlave has said, but allow him a little time to adjust - it is not his fault that he is so big. Don't forget to praise and reward him when he does get things right.
