Deep sleep 13.5 year old Westie difficult to wake?

hello, on two occasions recently my Westie (Molly) has slept so deeply it has been difficult to wake her which is unusual as normally she would stir instantly at noise or the slightest touch.
I think after a recent ear infection this has bought on deafness which might explain things but I was so surprised that to wake her I had to rock her a little physically to get a reaction from the dog which is most unusual for her, other than this everything else appears normal, walking eating & playing with her ball etc.
Molly is 14 this year but in good overall health and has a good diet.
Has anyone else had experience with their Westie sleeping so deeply please.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.
    Paul

I think that you may be correct in suspecting that your Westie has become deaf. I think your vet should be able to do a hearing test, and maybe give her a general check up. I am lucky to have never had a deaf dog, but I did have a cat who became deaf, and he was rather like that in his later years.
I hope someone who has greater experience of canine deafness might be able to help. Best wishes for your elderly lady.
