    Hello, full SBT or not?

Hello, we purchased a SBT puppy a few days back but we are having problems with the breeder who first said that he had papers, then that they were missing and now that he cannot get the kc papers off the bitches owner as the pups were never registered. Zero is 17 weeks old. His snout seems a little long to me, different to a previous SBT pup we had before and I just wondered if you all think he may be a cross and that is why the breeder doesn't want to pass on the papers if there are any at all? Thanks [IMG] [IMG]

He could be a cross or a full SBT, if he is full SBT he just isnt a "well bred" staff (to show standard). The only way to really know if he is a full stafford is KC papers. My ex's staff had papers but he looked nothing like a show standard Stafford. Either way you have a gorgeous staffy type there and I bet he gives the best staffie cuddles :007:

What a stunning puppy:007: :007: Does it really matter to you if papers don't exist? Was the breeder recommended to you or one who was advertising they had a litter?

My boy had a longer nose than my previous bitch, but he is one now and as his head has bulked out his nose is the right size, I love my boy dearly and don't care 1 jot what he could be mixed with so no matter to me, I would say that it would be VERY unlikely to lose the kc papers in that short of time from having them reg'd to selling pups, but you have a beautiful pup there don't worry so much about kc, give him the best of everything you can and he will pay you back ten fold x x x

What do you mean by the above, who did you buy the pup off, did you not buy from the bitches breeder, didn`t you see your pup with the dam before you bought it ?

I guess if you bought the pup from someone who has a dog, and you have no paperwork to prove pups heritage, its possible your pup could be a xbreed, or not bred from the best examples of the breed.

I`m also guessing that no health tests have been done on the dam or sire, if no paperwork to back it up.

At the end of the day, you have to decide what`s important to you, do you want a pure staffie or are you happy with what you have got,

I would say there is no paperwork, due to either or both dogs (parents) not being KC registered, what research did you do into the breeder and sire owner??

What ever the outcome, your pup is as cute as a nut :007:

Thanks for all your replies, he sure is a beautiful dog and he is excellently behaved. I brought him from a breeder who was also selling pups that are all kc reg and the parents had health checks etc. He said that he had studded out his male (whos sire was valgo singing the blues and he was fully health checked) and zero was his pick of the litter. He said the other man had messed him about with papers but he would get them for us in the future, now saying that he can't get them at all. He also says he is not sure if the Dam has had her heath checks...surely he. Would have asked before mating his dog with her? Yes, papers are important to us tbh, only so we know the background of the pup and can check the parents have had their health checks. Another thing is that the breeder told us zero was wormed up to date, but he has worms. He also has had two poops that were mostly blood and mucus and after taking him to see the vet yesterday afternoon we found out he also has sweaty ear issues, suspected colitis and also suspected mites. My OH wants to give him back to the breeder as we can't be sure that he is healthy and will stay healthy as he grows. Another thing that worrys me is thathe is vey nervous, his tail is almost always between his legs , he cowers when we pick him up and shys away when we stroke him. I'm unsure what to do for the best tbh, do I keep him and possibly be stuck with huge vet bills in the future or do I do what my oh wants to do and return him and look elsewhere. Not a great start to the new year.

Oh dear, what a situation to be in, I can understand your hubby wanting to let his head rule on this, but your heart will want to keep the pup.

To be honest I would bet the breeder is not the sort to take pup back anyway, so that may not be an option.

From what you write it seems you have fallen into the hands of unscrupulous people, no reputable stud owner would take a pup from a litter then sell it on, they usually either take a stud fee or take first or second pick of litter to keep for themselves , taking one to sell on is not (in my eyes ) the sign of a good breeder.

I would guess anything they have told is is probably an untruth, but you can check up with the KC (if any of the dogs are KC registered) to see if 1) they are KC reg, and 2) any health tests have been done.........go onto the KC website if you type the dogs name (sire) in, it will come up with his health results, (if they are there that is ).

You`ve got a choice to make, keep your boy and hope you can work through his nervousness , and hope no health issues arise, or try to return him.

Without any paperwork to go on, you will not know what breeds or type are in your pup, you also need to consider there may be some pit bull or pit type in there, or he may be pure staffie well bred or not.

Until people do start making a fuss and returning pups to unscrupulous breeders that will continue to breed and tell lies to unsuspecting costumers this will continue to happen... they rely on once the owner has got pup home, their heart takes over and they cant let it go back.

    Tough choice,

    Another thing............

Not buying your pup from the breeder (who bred him) you have not seen the dam, or the environment he has been brought up in, you don`t know they type of person the breeder is, OR the temperament of the pups mum, this is important for anyone buying a puppy, dogs pass on their characters /temperaments to their offspring and if either of the dogs has temperament issues it could be passed on to yours.

The fact your pup has temperament/ nervousness issues may be the result of under socialisation from the breeder (important) or (or both) he inherits his dams or sire temperament.

Young puppies should NOT be weary of you, they should be bouncy and into everything and all over everyone, they should not sneak away from human contact with their tails between their legs......

I think you have learnt a very hard lesson on who to buy a well bred puppy from, its now down to you to decide what to do next.

I don't envy you , the one thing you need to ask yourself is , are you prepared to take on a dog for 10/15 yrs that might have temperament issues, and are you capable of dealing with them. you may end up with the best dog in the world, or your worse nightmare.

If I was you, I would want to see "in person" the dam of the pup, and where it lives, before I make any decisions.......

Something, forgive me for saying, you should have done in the first place....

Good luck, Hope it works out for you and your little puppy,

Thank you for your thorough reply, you speak a lot of sense. I've agreed to my partners wishes and the breeder has taken back the pup, fully refunded and reimbursed our vet costs too. I'm very sad he is gone but what you have said about temperament issues really made my mind up for me, I have 3 young children and just can't risk a fearful dog. I'm very aware that it was stupid of us to take this pup without seeing his dam and won't be making that mistake again.

Sorry to hear that, but in many respects I admire you for making this decision.

At least the breeder took the pup back, shame is he will probably sell it on to some other unsuspecting owner.

This is the fall out of this sort of breeding, a puppy that may or may not have a good future, and playing with people's emotions.

I would suggest that if you still want a staffie then please go to either the KC website or the breed club for a list of reputable breeders, there are plenty of them out there, make sure you see the puppies with their mother, and ask as many questions as you can, be prepared to be quizzed also by the breeder, do your research on health , and ask to see ALl paperwork , before you buy.

Again sorry this came to this,

I feel the most sorry for the dog in this situation. I would suggest next time going to the humane society and adopting a dog there, they are temperament tested, they cost less and they need a home badly.

Praying that the breeders at least have the decency to take the poor puppy to the vet and get the mites treated.
