Our one year rough collie had to have an op today. Last week at his one year check up, they found that one testicle had not dropped and we was advised for medical reasons to remove the testicle from inside, so it was like a part catstration. Today's result he has only one testicle and has female parts inside ! The vet said this was the second dog she has ever seen in 34 years to have this condition. He is gorgeous and very loving. Just wondered if anyone else had a dog like this ? Thanks
How extraordinary - never come across it before. How do other dogs react to him? Anyway, all that matters is that he is happy and loving!
The vet described him as unique and he certainly is. He is a very submissive dog, a lot of other dogs don't like him, but Ron Burgundy (as we called him) just lays down . We put it down to other dogs being jealous of his looks but who knows what dogs can pick up on . We wouldn't swap him for the world and when the 10 year King Charles goes it will be another rough collie we get.
How interesting. I wonder if it is possible that he was twinned with a female? Farmers do not like to have twin calves, (or lambs), of opposite sexes as their sex organs are often confused. I think it can occur in humans too. They are called Freemartins, and the problem is thought to be caused by the transfer of hormones as the twin embryos are developing in the womb.
Yes with a Pit Bull. Female on the outside but male anatomy (testis both sides) inside so opted to spay.
I had a couple of dogs over the years that were hermaphrodite and both were lovely dogs. Thankfully, the condition doesn't cause the confusion that it causes in humans so it doesn't have the same psychological effects
No personal experience but I knew a blue roan cocker spaniel who was a hermaphrodite. Lived a long and happy live.
