K.C breed standard's (over size) Discussions

the k.c set a standard 4 load's of breeds of dog, but if a dog is out of this apart from being no good 4 the ring what els is there 2 it or is that it, plus where do the over size in staffs come from?
my staff barney is 1 year old and is 18 1/2 - 19 inches tall and 21 kg's, the breeder we got him from told us what he would (should) turn out like and he was spot on, he says that he has been breeding the old standard of staff 4 years so what im trying to say is where does my dogs body type/shape/build come from = thin and lean un like a staff and his hight also un like staffs to get this tall? or is it not just i have not seen any that look like him around hear.

to get a tall staff you have to find both sire and dam that are tall, the old standard say up to 18" (i think) and when the standard was changed there were a lot of breeders that did not agree with it and carried on breeding to the old 1. plus when the dda come in, in 1991 there was a lot of pitbulls that were reg as Sbts so that is another palces where the hight may come from. some of these dogs where then used to breed back to proper sbts.

i have been told by a few breeders that breed to the old standard that any sbt that is about 19" or over has somthing eles in there as well, as even the early dogs where not that tall.

would rather a leggy stafford than a short stafford any day!

my abbie is just under 18 inches and is well built she is fully kc reg,

love abbie always have hun u know that! bessie is 17 inches! and borris is 18 inches!

but as you can see he is a verry light build 4 a staff (but he is great )

he is still young abbie stopped filling out at 18 months

i like my dogs taller as well
but a short staff can be as good as a tall 1, what i don't like is when u have a sort dog with a massive chest now to me that dog is no good to do the job it was bred to do. Tara is only 14 3/4" but she don't have a massive chest so looks good, Grace her daughter is 16.5" is bigger than her mam all round chest, head, legs but still looks good

may i ask if you have a pic of her @ my dogs age that i can see?

HI Bolty, nice dog, if you're dog is only 1 i'd say he's still got a lot of filling out to do. Louis did'nt start filling out till he was about 1.5 to 2 years. He is 17ins and 45lbs but looked just like Barney as a pup.

Keisha is 17 to the withers... looks are decieving with her because she is long iin the body...



Kai is 1.5 to the withers... nice n chunky...



And Ice is about 5 inches....

are you sure he is only 1.5" Saz
