The Komondor is very rare in the UK (somewhere in the region of 80 in total, I understand), but there is one living just down the road from me. This is "Storm", a former Crufts contestant. Unfortunately, not long after her appearance at that Show of Shows, she caught some form of skin disease, which necessitated the clipping of all her lovely Rasta-style hair - and it takes YEARS to grow back to its full glory. Here she is with her owner: you'll get an idea of how big she is (and the males are bigger). If you're considering one, just think of all the washing and grooming a Kom needs - let alone how much one will eat! Snorri
That's one of the reasons the owner gave when she said I could post the pic! When she got Storm from a friend who bred Koms, she got a half-price deal on the puppy - and paid well ovewr £600 for her! One day, in Kirkwall, we met the breeders, out with Storm, her father and her brother - 3 Koms in a wee place "up north", and we realized we were seeing a fair percentage of the UK population in one place at the same time. Magnificent. Snorri (Still a Border Collie man, though)
Is that the same breed that Gwen Stefani/Gavin Rossdale own, theirs is black same type of coat but 1/4 the size of that dog?
Oh it may be Emma was the reason I asked was not sure looked like the same type of dog just a different size Thanks Laura
yes i think they have the same *dreads* type of coat (but dont quote me on that ) is this what you are on about ?
Ahh yes that is what I am thinking off, apologies to Komondor/Puli owners for getting the two confused. Cheers Emma Laura
I understand that the Komondor and the Puli are fairly closely related - and were bred for the same purpose - sheep protection. Snorri
