    My Staffordshire pup got attacked

I have a male stafforshire bull terrier nearly 4 months , his being well socailzed with other dogs and is doing well with all his training . last night I brought him for his last walk with friend dog whose dog is also very placid and out of nowhere two other dogs came and started attacking my puppy the first dog started it and the other one joined in and started pinning him down and growling and going for his neck , the owners were very stupid and were too far away from us to take there dogs off mine so I had to break it up and try get my puppy out which could have got me bitten , the dog was then lunging at me to get to my puppy in my arms finally his owner got them both back on the lead . my puppy was very shaken and his neck had a tiny cut , I'm really worried now that this will effect him with other dogs as ived put alot of effort into his socalization , and I'm scared that I will see these dogs again and they will keep doing this to him .

Hi Katie, and welcome to the forum. What a horrible experience you had to cope with, I imagine that you and your puppy are still feeling shaken up. There is not a lot you can do to prevent incidents like this, but have you notified the Dog Warden? These dogs could be known to them, and their owners really need a warning.
Does your puppy go to socialisation classes? He needs to be mixing and playing calmly with trustworthy dogs and puppies to minimise any effects this attack might have had. I hope his little battle scar heals quickly, and he is able to bounce back again.

Any photo's? It's always good to see puppies.

Sorry to hear this, having been there I know how upsetting it is for you both. some dogs bounce back with no problems others don’t, but for the time being id walk a different route if possible till things settle down, dogs are sensitive to our emotions ,( easy to say ) but be careful that you do not become overly worried by other dogs and start tensing up as he will pick up on this, try to arrange some positive experiences with other dogs that you know are safe as soon as possible, take it slow, only at his pace, if you see strange dogs approaching try using a distraction like tit-bit/toy, and If you see a loose dog in the distance try hard to be cheerful and matter of fact and turn and walk away at a normal pace without getting nervous, obedience classes may also help, but check them out on your own first that way you can see the trainers methods and if there is any mouthy dogs that may put him off .

    Good Luck x

hi thank you for answering , I reported the owner to the park , but I have asked around now about this one dog , he has scared quite a few dogs round there , his owner is also very silly because he let's the dog off the lead and is nowhere near him it took 5 mins till he even came to help and then after not seeing what had happened tryed to bring the dog back to my puppy who was terrified . The other dog who also attacked blue I don't know who he is as his owner tryed to walk away with his dog once he got him without even saying sorry. I took blue back out today and walked him round the park with some nice placid dogs , it's just made me nervous because we were going to train blue off the lead as his been off and isn't too bad he don't stray too far just likes to jump on people to say hello but really nervous that this could happen again and the next time i won't be as lucky , even suprised that I didnt end up being bit. was bringing him to socalization but it's all full up in the local training place . There's a pic of blue x 2016-01-08_15.26.00.jpg

    Sorry to hear this :(

You must be so angry!!! You have been so careful and these stupid owners should be reported!

I would go to puppy socialisation classes as you have a better chance of being around young dogs who are less likely to be aggressive towards a pup.

Yes very angry , I'm gonna look around and see if I can find some other puppy classes nearby if not I will just socalized him with friend's dog who is very placid . blue didn't even get a chance to say hello to the dog they just ran and attacked so I know for a 100 percent that it was nothing that he done . The dogs who attacked him was a staff mixed with lab and I think the other one was a mixed dog aswell they were very big dogs to do that to a puppy and blue was completely terrified he didn't even growl or fight back he just took it . even at home his a very placid dog he loves cuddling and he loves to sleep his very smart his only 3 months and a half and knows sit paw lie down stay go , his fully toilet trained nearly and he is learning to play fetch and he really is a sweet dog , just an unfortunate thing just hope he can bounce back , really annoying if a dog is aggresive they should be on there leads the owner had no control

    He is a sweetie.
You sound as if you are doing all the right things, and if you can avoid people like this in future - I know, it's not always easy - I think he will bounce back OK. The more nicely mannered dogs he can meet, the better, while he is at this impressionable age.

What an absolutely adorable puppy. Clever as well to have learned all those things at his age. He puts my mini-monster puppy to shame.

You've done exactly the right thing. The key now is to try to have him around as many friendly dogs of all shapes and sizes as you can as this will help him overcome any lingering fears from the attack.

It's so very annoying when these things happen. If you are in the UK, please report the incident to your local authority dog warden. The owners of the other dogs need a firm talking to to get them to keep their dogs under control.

Good luck with your boy x
