    Nicknames

What are your dogs' nicknames - other than their official name(s)?

Our three dogs are called "Buddy, Baby, and Bear". "Baby" is our Chihuahua, who is actually the oldest of the three. We were used to calling her "the baby" when she was our younger dog in the past.

You know the old song that goes "Hey, there, Georgy girl..." ? At some point, we started saying "Hey, there, Rosie Bear..." about our Maltese mix.

"Buddy" has been a common nickname for male dogs, in my experience...there is not really a special reason for calling our male Beagle this. He is also known as "Big Goof".

Besides their screennames that I use here (only Panther and Punx use their real names here - because they hadn't made the decision to stay when I posted about them - elsewhere they are Looney3 and Looney4), I have several group and individual nicknames.

The cats are all Looneys, and any given two are a Twooney. The boys are Bears and the girls are Princesses and Baby Girls. Looney1 and Punx are Brats. Looney2 and Panther are My Perfect Cats. The boys have been Cat Gods among cat gods since they showed up - the girls are still growing into their Cat Gods among cat gods status. Punx is also known as The Phantom Cat and The Ungrateful One.

The dogs as a pair are "you guys". Tornado-dog is Snortimer and Little Man. Cat-dog is The Under the Bed Monster.

I add Bear to the end of all the boys' names. Looney1 is known as Bear Bear - Bear is not his real name.

And they all respond to variations of their given names.

My prior dog, Bat-dog, is still known as my Baby Girl. Moose-dog had about a dozen nicknames that evolved out of his real name - Butter, Butt, Nutter But, Nutter Butter, Buttersquash, Butternut, etc. As a puppy he was Tuttlebug.

My Mom used to change lyrics to songs for our pets. I still remember You're a Grand Old Pug. There were many others that I don't remember.

We had a rotty when the kids were little and they could never say his name properly which was Rommel, so they used to call him bobble or bob for short and that name always stuck, the Doxie we have now is called buddy, so he gets called short stuff or tip tap. We don’t really have a nickname for beau as it’s a short name anyway, but we sometimes call him dickhead when he’s being a pain in the backside, like (who put 50p in dickhead?!) but we don’t shout it out. Woody we used to call plod as he hardly ever rushed about in later life, he just plodded along, so when we went out I used to shout come on plod and he’d come.

Tally's official name is Moonrock - I'll let you guess where she keeps it!
She is always Tally for working purposes, but off duty I often shorten it to Tal or Tal-Wal. As there are only the two of us I chat with her all day, calling her Baby, Angel or Sweetheart, (Yes, it is a bit yukky). Tal's recall is far from perfect, so when she is off lead and, 'Tally Come', fails, 'Here y'are', (delivered with hand in pocket), is my first line safety device.
Merry was always Moo moo, and Eddie was Ed or Duardo.

If only food would work for mine, I have to keep a squeaky ball on me and sometimes even that don’t work. Hence his nickname, he knows when he don’t want to go home yet and decides to play up like a spoil brat, especially when he knows he hasn’t got a longline on.

Gwylim is often called Gwillie the willie and Grisha is Grishaweesha. Other names are Puppydogs, My two boys, Superchappies and Mummy's sweethearts!

I'm sure though because I tell them so often, they must think their names are Wait for me, Move, Out of my way and Down!;);)

Wait is the first command I teach. Useful in so many different situations!

    Same here!

Wait is probably the most important command for me. Since having a hip replacement many years ago I have difficulty walking on uneven ground and as I can't lift my right leg very high, getting up and down kerbs when crossing a road. The boys are sooo good I don't even have to tell them to wait, they do it automatically!

@chlosmum I have had both of my hips replaced - the second was about 10 months ago - and my legs are now two different lengths, only by about 1.5". Not too bad on a short walk, but it does slow me down on a longer one. If I'm not careful I can catch my longer toe on uneven ground. Had a fall recently while laying a trail, and destroyed my instructor's sunglasses. (They were the scent object). The joys of old age!
