    Nigredo burned potato

Here's fatty boy today. He's getting over an allergy flare up of unknown cause (I suspect a treat someone in the house probably gave him) as well as a mild case of fleas. Still missing some hair inside his thighs and on his tail but much better.

He's fat and so he's round like a potato and he's black so I call him a burned potato oftentimes.

He's fat looking but he's actually fatter than he looks. He is well over 100 lbs but should probably weigh like 85-90 lbs at max.

He is still lovely though, and what a glorious shiny coat!

Is it a medical issue making him fat?

There's nothing that they can find. He's completely healthy based on multiple examinations and blood tests and everything else. Even feeding him a handful of food a day and forcing him to exercise for an extra hour ON LEASH did nothing for his weight over the course of like 3-4 months. He was so unhappy and it wasn't working so I gave up on it.

Brownie wasn't fat, Jade is not fat and she's a million years old. This dog is fat. He also has allergies and bad hips. Had those both when we got him. He's ALWAYS had weird out turned back legs and he's ALWAYS walked funny. For now he's still able to do whatever he wants and jump into the car and onto beds without a problem. I am doing what I can and I won't ever own another dog fat or skinny. If I could find a decent home for him, frankly I would give him away but he seems happy here and hes got allergies and stuff and nobody wants him. They can't even find home for healthy young puppies, much less fat shedding dogs with allergies and wonky legs.

And wow it took me like 30 minutes with the site crashing twice to write this. Horrid site on Android.

I am usually on my Android tablet, and have no problems at all on here. I can have some of the problems you mention on a site that has a blue logo though.

    Poor Nigredo!!!
My dogs are pains in the bum sometimes but they are my pains in the bums :(

It's just a little odd that there's no medical reason and you are aware there's an issue, but nothing is changing.

Yeah I figured you guys wouldn't see a happy dog in the video but would be quick to point out the bad things. This site is slow and laggy for me and I can barely even post worth anything. I have zero reason to post here anymore anyway. I will do the best I can with Nigredo and then I will disappear from dog forums forever as I won't be owning anymore dogs.

All the abused and sad dogs in the world and people can look at this dog and say "poor dog". I truly do not belong here at all. I will admit to that.

I'm going to go ahead and get off this forum. I've lost my affinity for dogs and frankly Nigredo is tough to care for and more of a nuisance than an enjoyment and I will admit that.

Still I try to do what's best for him and I won't just send him to the pound where they will probably just put him down due to lack of homes. Some people here would actually probably say that's better for him knowing the absurdity of some of the things people say sometimes.

He's generally a happy dog as seen in his video and he does okay despite being too fat, which is something I am aware of but after multiple attempts at helping, have admitted that I've all but given up. No reason to lie to a bunch of strangers.

Anyway have a nice day everyone. This forum is not for me and I don't belong here.

Nigredo is the still the same dog that you were so proud of earning his blood donor tag, and I'm sure that you are still the centre of his life - so how can you be losing interest in him? I know that his joints have been a longstanding problem, that Jade is coming to the end of her life, and it isn't easy caring for unfit and failing dogs. Maybe all of this is getting you down, but loyal Nigredo deserves, and needs to continue to feel your loyalty and love.
If this is your final decision, goodbye Myra. You are knowledgeable, and I have come to admire the honesty and common sense advice you have frequently posted. Your fish are lovely, but they will never give you love in the same way that a dog will.

I can't see the video anymore, but in answer to your question Carole about how someone can just lose interest....I tend to find it happens in young teens especially who once life starts moving on with college, socialising, parties etc etc, the much longed for puppy is forgotten about. It's an irresponsible & sad mentality. Not saying that's the case for @mjfromga. Have no idea why she has lost interest. But actually, if the dog is not receiving adequate medical and/or physical interaction I would question how happy that dog is really.

Here's the "poor" dog. Might want to mute. I said something NASTY at the beginning of the video and ended up putting music over it which sucks so yeah.. Anyway here's my final bit and I'm really over it...

Assumptions, nuances, indirect BS and finger pointing is what this site is known for. That's why almost all new members run off, too. I don't need to condemn this site, it does it by itself.

Anyway I will explain for CaroleC because she's always been nice to me unlike many others. If ADMIN would honor deletion requests I would ask for that but he doesn't and so I won't bother.

This recent comment by Lou is nonsense IMO. People who have been married 30 years can have the same thing happen with their spouses and not want to be around them anymore so why act like it's that big of a deal? Again, people living in a bubble and making assumptions about other people they know nothing about.

The dog has always been hard to care for and I've simply decided I like another type of pet much better and it isn't as enjoyable to have the dog anymore. It isn't very complicated and it isn't as sinister as people here always try to make things out to be.

People who are hinting at me not caring about the dogs weight are full of it too. Why? First of all, this dog has been fat ever since he was a year old so why try to act like I've just suddenly stopped caring about him and that made him fat? NOT how it happened. He's getting older and the problem is worsening. That can be expected since I could never initially remedy the problem.

I DO care and I've gone to the vets (total nonsense about inadequate medical attention) and they are aware of the problem and have tried to help me. The dog has never had good hips (even when he was a little puppy) and frankly there isn't but so much exercise he can do. I still take him out daily to get him exercise and I don't feed him a lot. He's tried crash diets and exercise that he couldn't handle and it didn't help him at all.

I DON'T neglect him and I still care about him. He has allergies and I try to buy special food for him (which almost everyone in this area wouldn't even do) and he sheds a ton and I try to brush him so he won't look terrible, and his claws grow weird and hook on things and I have to take special care of them, and I do A LOT for this dog that I don't enjoy because I want him to be happy. And I realize he's my responsibility.

I'm AWARE OF HIS ISSUE and I don't need snotty people acting like I'm not aware or that I'm doing nothing. And POOR NIGREDO? You've got to be f---ing kidding me. Go look around this neighborhood and you'll truly see some "poor" dogs. I'm definitely not trying to hear that. It's noise.

Everyone up here acting like this dog is just abused and neglected and that he's the only fat dog in the world or that all my dogs have been fat and out of shape etc. Really awful and stuck up. There are lots of fat dogs that struggle to lose weight same as there are lots of fat people that struggle. I know the struggles personally and all of this is just a huge insult and does ZERO to help.

I'm truly done with this site. CaroleC hopefully this makes sense to you and thanks for not jumping to a million conclusions.

it would be interesting to know the amount of exercise he gets, because as I said, there are only a couple of ways he can be so overweight, health issues (you say he has been given the all clear ) or he is fed to much and lacks enough exercise . just like us humans, we kid ourselves that we exercise and don`t eat a lot, yet we are overweight, ( I include myself in this LOL)

The problem being that for genuine dog lovers who have had their dog from puppy hood, cant really understand your attitude towards your dog, to say you`d give him away because he is a nuisance , is beyond most folk.

i guess the truth od it is, you lack an infinity with dogs, and discard them when they become to much trouble,

It would be interesting to see how he fared in someone else hands , I hope you can find him a home, where he is loved for the dog he is.

I think there may be a lot more going on here than we see to be honest, going on an observation ( as much as one can over the internet ) over the years she has been on this and the other site.

I hope the dog finds the right home for him , no he is not abused and I am sure is much better cared for than many dogs around her , but if he is not wanted then a better home should be found if at all possible.
