    Obama dog?

    Two questions

    1) Is the Portuguese Water Dog the Obama's dog?

    2) What kind of cut do the Obamas have on their dog?

Bo is indeed a Portie. The Obamas now have 2 PWDs, the other called Sunny. This cut is the pet retriever cut. Note that Portie's coat varys from tight curly to loose wavy. Bo is relatively curly. My Crusoe is very loose wavy. Pics on another of these threads. Have a look but Ic'll also try to post another.x IMAG2408.jpg

As above they are PWD and both curly and both in the retriever /pet clip..
You can also get a worly, that's somewhere in-between the curly and wavy .

My boy is in the lion clip , p.s he is a wavy ...

Thank you for the replies and pictures, what beauties they are :007:
This does lead me on to another question, is one type more sought after than the other?

I`m not sure about that, in the UK the curly coats are few and far between, due to the show ring preferring the wavy coat, you wont see many curly in the ring, in the US I think it may be different,

I would imagine curly coats have become more popular since the Obamas got one and I just wondered whether that made them like gold dust , as often happens with celebrities.

I only know my breeder said she always has more requests for wavy.

Note also that wavy coats are significantly easier to look after than curly coats. You still need to invest time and money on grooming in order to avoid matts but curly curly coats hold all the debris they pick up and matt quicker and more viciously. All ok of course if you want to brush every day! Think you'll find wavy coats are still more sought after here in the UK.

Thanks! Both Jackie's and mine are wavy, for what it's worth. They're all amazing(I'm biased, of course! )

I think I want an Obama dog too :D

Must say they are stunning, and not as 'girly' as some of the longer haired breeds (am I allowed to say that?)

I was thinking more of the owners Anne - you don't see many chaps with long-haired dogs, well not around here anyway

To let you in to a little secret.. I love Afghan Hounds :049:

I don't think that's the case, the curly is more common in the US, so it's more likely to get one there than here, most breeders here have wavy, so it's more likely to get a wavy ...thinking of those in the ring, only a few will be curly, I think you can get both in a litter depending on the sire and dam.

Personally I like the wavy over the curly, but love em all.....

I thought you had said he was Gemson - got that wro ng! Be interesting to compare their characters. Richard Curtis once said to methat the Gemson line was known to be "calmer" Wonder if that's true? Must say Crusoe's extremely chilled at home and in cafes etc. Just a live wire when out off leash. Howz bout Figo?
