pitt bulls General Chat

please could someone enlighten me as to what 2 breeds of dog make a pitt bull ?

I have a staffy x american bulldog and i now have people telling me these 2 breeds can make a pitt bull ?????

I am sure they are wrong.....

A pit bull is a breed of dog, one that is banned in the UK.

That incorrect - they can't make a pit bull. Although the offspring may appear to be of pit bull 'type' - but then so can a lab cross. Type means the 'type' of dog in terms of how it looks.

Make sure you do all you can to properly socialise your puppy - go read the quickstart guides to help you on your way

Thanks guys, i knew these 2 breeds couldnt make a pitt bull. I did panic for a min then but i knew someone on here would be able to answer my question! Thank you agin....sigh !

Many thanks for that link, i just had a look and ewwwww i dont like the thought or the look of a pit bull. Georgie certainly doesnt look like one so im relieved. He just looks like an american bulldog to me with a staffs body.

In fairness to Pits, the one at the top of that link has the awful surgically cropped ears which makes them look nothing like their personality usually is toward people.
When properly raised, they are very Staffy-like in terms of being great with people. I knew one very well years ago, long before the breed ban came in, and he really was a bundle of fun with a lovely sunny nature, and of course normal sweet soft flopped over ears.

i never said it mde a pit bull mate i just said that some ignorant do gooder types could weell mistake an ambulldog x staff with a pit as it COULD look like a taller more muscular staff depending on how the xbreed fell in my opinion that is

There are many, many cross breeds that make a pitbull type but crossing breeds can never make a different breed, they remain cross breeds and look alikes until they start to breed true to type which takes years and years.

all breeds start out as crosses......

But i dont see a need to cross an ab with a stafford??

Just to say really I'm going back to over a year ago - But I am 100% certain there was a Staffy x AB owner on Dogsey

May be worth doing a search see if some photo's of the posters dog are still on the forum just to give you some idea's as to how your pup may possibly turn out ;-) If you hit a brick wall PM me and I may beable to pointer you in the direction of some photo's of this cross

i have an am bulldog cross staff, gnash, and he has the nicest nature and is totally non dog aggressive, will see if i can find any pics of him

danimal.....sorry i didnt aim that at you - I've had a large responce from people including my friends who ask me if Georgie is a pitt bull. Im sure i read on an internet site that pitt bulls were originally bred from 2 different breeds of dog. 1 was a staff and i cant remember what the other was.

Georgie was born from an accidental mating- not an planned one. I got Georgie from a friend of a friend and he owns both Georgies parents ( mother- staff and father-american bulldog)




Sutty.....Your dog is lovely. Very nice colouring. Georgie has more of a wrinkly face than gnash, and his eyes are more of a staffs shape.

My digital camera isnt working at the moment so the photos ive taken i have to get developed and put on a disc and then put them on my comp so will have pictures shortly for you all to see.

Have to say you would be hard put to find two more people friendly breeds than the Bulldog and the Staffie, do not think crossing them achieves anything but accept accidents do happen, however the result should never be anything but a delight providing you do not mind an enthusiastic person loving dog that likes nothing better than getting in close.
