    Purposely breeding type dogs!!

As we all know, well apart from a few it seems if you were to breed an AB to a SBT the resulting offspring would be considered by the law to be Pitbull Type and would fall fowl of section one of the dangerous dogs act!!

Now why if someone knew this would they be doing such a cross ?

I am not sure that we do all know that breeding an AB to a SBT would produce offspring which would be considered by the law to be Pitbull type and would foul of Section 1 of the DDA.

On what do you base this opinion?

As a matter of interest I bet many of us could take you to any rescue kennels in the country and show you dogs which would look the same; what do you think rescues do with these dogs?

'cause the dogs gotta look 'ard, innit?

As I said on the other thread, I've only just twigged that's what a lot of the "giant Staffies" around here probably are.

Would an AB/SBT cross fall foul of section One then?

I thought you were joking, until I had a Google...

So, going by that, I'd imagine an AB/SBT cross could be on shakey ground?
In that case, deliberately crossing them is, at least, reckless IMO

Mind you, even the AB sounds at risk from that, surely?

Used to be that people would say there pitbulls were lab crosses or boxer crosses ...
AB's and the like seem to have taken over that lie..

When you say people questioned her breed, was it just people asking in the street or did you have to prove anything "officially?"

Sorry, hope I didn't cause offence with my earlier comments, where I live the Staffy x's just seem to attract the wrong types of owners, which you're obviously not going by your dogs "qualifications"
Mind you, even with idiots on the wrong end of the lead, most staffies and their crosses generally seem to be quite friendly, much to the disgust of some of the owners!

the vets questioned me when i took her for the first time he reccommended i get her speyed in case questions were asked which was my intention so that was cool and yes a few people did ask me in the street but as shes grown this has become less i think this may be due to people round my area not knowing what american bull dogs are no prob and no offence taken murv i admit she wasnt a breed x i was intent on getting i was gonna have a another staff but shes cool and id def have another

    ^^^are any cheap ??

Pedigree papers don't hold up in court as they are forged more than money, it's just a pieces of paper to them.

I've met AB's and my dog loves a good run around with them as they are just as playful and strong as him. Haven't met any males though for some reason?
    Your dog looks luuuurrrvvvly :)

Edit; oops, sorry the topic; well it probably is reckless and certainly there are enough Staffie X's around anyway but I do think it is unfair that looks alone would partially determine the fate of a dog in a big way.

now totally off-topic but someone said they suffer skin problems as they are white. Now I know that dosn't sound right but the ones I have met definately have hot spots and itches...is it just co-incidence though?

It's nothing to with the white coat, It's down to people breeding unhealthy untested dogs to more unhealthy untested dogs creating more of the same that are going into pet homes and costing people thousands each year on vet bills and still being bred lol

It didn't help that most of the original AB's imported into the uk in the late 80's early 90's were crap to begin with!!

Hate to hear that old wives tale that White dogs (Boxers) suffer from ill health / skin problems - yeh ok will keep off my soap box - lOl

Kat - your dog is lovely. You could just as easily say she is a Boxer x Lab & no one would be any the wiser :)

People cross for size ,for colour and sadest of all ''status''..
If a type dog is the outcome maybe thats what some people want ..??

Most folks with are types of dogs have had a muppet or 2 regale us with stories of their pit or pit cross they have at home
