Hello I’m a new poster and this is our rescue dog Margo, we’ve had her since Feb and she’s been a joy we feel very lucky to have found such a lovely dog. This is our first hound type dog, I’ve owned Staffies and Mastiff’s in the past. We think she is some sort of scent hound mix but not 100% sure we would love to know what you think? The reason for joining and my post is her recall is really good we can let her off the lead mostly however since summer has kicked in she seems too have discovered the hound within and whenever we take her to an area where there are rabbits, deer, squirrels etc her recall goes completely out the window, goes totally deaf and she will not return to me or my husband, we have realised that no amount of calling and treats will get her to come, this has resulted in a good 15/20 mins of me following her across fields and a rugby style tackle to catch her, I’m fit but tackling my dog in a very hard bumpy field is not good for my 50 year old body this has happened about 3/4times so I’ve got her a long line so I at least have a chance of catching her without breaking my hip. My question is… Can she be trained to come when we call even if she is tracking something or do we have a life on a longline? If she can be trained what are your tips? She’s always so good on the line but as soon as she’s off she basically does the off Thank you in advance Emma and Margo
