    Shar-pei x Old English..

It has got to be the most unusual bull breed cross I have come across (other than the Shih x bulldog)

Not seen it before - but then I have just started walking in the mornings rather than the afternoons, so I can have more practice with Louie's impulse control. But came across this one today and from afar it looked like a really ugly staffy, then it got closer and I asked what he was and why would you cross the two. It wasn't the cutest cross I've seen..

Anyway - I post this as I know Murf might have liked to know :)

I don't have any of this particular dog..(his owners didn't look too friendly tbh) but he had a small bulldog body and a shar-pei face, sandy (don't know the proper colour terms) in colour and blacked muzzle...

I did encounter an OES x St Bernard today as well - she was a lovely dog but not very bright.. she'd just been rescued though and her previous name was "Perfect" Hmmmm....

Are you old enough to remember when shar pei's were classed as the rarest of breeds and became a fashion must..
Must of been a shock .lol

I think I'm too young - but then I'm not really a fan of bull breeds, I do like them but I don't research into them unless there is something bugging me that I need to find out. :D

I thought it was the latest designer cross tbh...

I have seen on tv someone trying pass off a ''Type dog'' as a shar pei cross ,the police confiscated it and the owner never claimed it back :<

Shar-Pei are not a bull breed. Sadly, there seems to be a rash of numpties breeding them with staffies and bulldogs. Bad mix really.

The shar pei gene poll must be tiny ..
Looking at a litter for sale yesterday and they were advertised as have their eye lids pinned already:?
Is that not a major deal for a under 8 week old pup..??

I am aware of that now - misread Murf's comment, I thought he'd said Shar-pei crosses.. - but even so - they aren't a breed I would particularly go out of my way for.. nice dogs, for the two I have met, but just don't take my fancy.. although - you have to admit everyone needs to see a Shar-pei pup - they are really cute..

Murf - it was the size of a staffy - quite small, either a young'un or badly bred.

Many breeders choose to have the puppies eyes tacked much younger than 8 weeks as a precautionary measure. At least this was the case when we bought Bronx about 14 years ago.

Are the eyes permanently fixed ?

That's debatable. Bronx's eyes were tacked as pup but he still developed mild entropian in one eye.

I always thought that. Actually, I disliked them and thought they were hideously ugly. Then one saw sucker written on my forehead, decided I was her her new pet person and 15 years on I'm on my fourth one.

TBH - I'm the same - didn't want an ESS or a Lab.. now I have both rolled in one and I love him (I'd have another cross between the two and I'd have an ESS too)

Funny how the dogs choose us though.. :D
