I know the dogs in Camberwick Green [Trumpton] were Pekingese & were called Milzi, Daphne & Lulu & was owned by Miss Lovelace. But what breed of dog was Dougal ? The answers I have so far for Dougal are a Skye Terrier - Maltese Terrier - Scots Terrier - Wheaten Terriers & mix breed. -
Dougal was a drop-eared variety of the Sky Terrier. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Roundabout#Characters And I had to Google that to find out!
Problem is Malka nothing like a Skye Terrier & Magic roundabout was French programme so was thinking it more likely to be a French breed Yes could of been a cross Lhasa Apsol with a Terrier of some sorts Only thing is Dougal kept on changing colour he went from sandy brown to dark brown & even white.
I suppose that he must be whatever his creator said he was. Perhaps he liked to change his hair colour occasionally.
I just remember watching the Magic Roundabout with my children but never gave a thought as to what Dougal would have been. But your OP made me think so I Googled, and yes, although it was originally a French programme, Wiki came up with Dougal was a drop-eared variety of the Skye Terrier. Not that I would know as I have no idea what a Skye Terrier should look like! And I do not think that my children bothered about it either!
None of those cartoon characters look like they are supposed to be - I mean have you ever looked at Mickey Mouse actually looking like a real mouse? But the cartoon Dougal definitely does not look like a real drop-eared variety of the Skye Terrier - but then do any of the cartoon characters look real? I do not think young children really care though, do you?
Yes I really really really really really must know what breed Dougal was, I mean how else am I going to win a holiday in Scotland without the correct answer
Sorry Tina but that is not a dropped ear sky terrier http://www.kolumbus.fi/skyeluck/ada_arvostelut.html

Well have posted Dougal as a 1967 French cartoon Cross breed as someone as put Skye Terrier & its come up wrong answer.
There are two types the prick- and drop-eared http://www.skyeterrierclub.org.uk/the-drop-ear-skye-terrier/
The answer to what breed if any was Dougal is........... Pekingese x Lhaso Apso x Maltese Heinz 57 no designer names back in the 50's-60's Dougal who's real name was Pollux was based on the French author Serge Danot mix breed dog, but when the show was first aired in England a drop ear Skye won at Crufts (not sure if won best in show or best in group) & the Skye club decided that Dougal was base on the winning drop ear Skye Terrier. Its great having friends in France that still have the first Pollux adventure book, that as a photo of Pollux (all be it black & white photo) on back cover.
That's great, we have all learned something new. You should stand a good chance in the competition. What is the prize?
