    That's beautiful - there's nothing like having something hand made and unique

    I once had a very expensive hand made collar for a miniature poodle.She buried it in the sand in a beach in Wales.

    Oh Phil, I think that's really beautiful, so Celtic and well, so willowy!

    Mine just have plain brown bridle leather, but this has got me wondering - what would be a good design for Beagles? Prancing bunnies, or hunting horns?

    It's not a plug but

    This was made for me by Hannah Morley in North Yorkshire.

    She is a one lady business that goes under the name of made2measure-leather works. It's mainly horse and dog stuff that she does.

    She has certain basic designs which you can ask for but then I got to specify the back width / tapered width / length / number of holes and scope for growth / emblem / buckle width etc and then she prices them accordingly as one offs.

    Lovely young lady to deal with too.

    I've just had a look at Hannah's website ... what beautiful collars and considering last year I paid £20 for a fairly ordinary collar for Georgina, they're not too expensive.

    Finding a well fitting collar for a Pei is pain in the butt, because of all the loose skin around their neck. Contrary to what you'd expect with most dogs, I have to replace Georgina's regularly because they become too big for her! The one she's wearing now is tightened to the last hole and I'll soon have to buy another one for her.

    I love the "English Rose" collar and am tempted to order it for her, but then I'd have to buy one for Gwylim as well which with him having a Welsh name would obviously be the "Welsh Dragon".

    Will now go and count up how many pennies I have in my piggy bank!

    What a beautiful collar [for a beautiful puppy!]

    Tikva wears a plain collar only because she has to have a - oh heck, what do you call a thing with a name/etc on it? Her tether and/or leash are the same colour as her collar but are clipped onto her harness. Which is, of course, the same colour as her harness.

    One day I will remember what things are called. I hope.

    Like Malka my dogs only wear collars for their id tags, they only wear their collars when out, as are naked in house, but after saying that they all do have diamond encrusted collars which they wear for photo shoots only.

    I don't keep collars on mine all the time.

    That said Willow is big and gets in the way a lot so it is quite handy to be able to just hold her collar to gently move her sometimes.

    Mine only wear collars to go out (well Chico the Chihuahua has a harness) - the only exception is if I know there's going to be a delivery or someone coming to the house and then I leave the collars on so I can grab them if they decide someone is in need of a good licking.

    Tikva wears a lightweight collar all the time [and thank you for telling me it is for an ID tag - I just forgot].

    The harness that Tikva wears is ideal for grabbing hold of her and lifting her up! It is only a lightweight mesh one though and she is not that heavy.

    Tikva gave Michal, the vet, a good licking this afternoon!

    I never kept collars on my show dogs, it would have spoilt the lie of their coats, giving a less elegant line to the neck and shoulder. Since having rescues, (or a rehome in Merry's case), I have become a law abiding dog owner, and kept collars and tags routinely in place. The thought of a Lurcher or Beagle disappearing over the horizon without any ID fills me with horror, (though they do always come back - eventually).
    My new motto is, a grab in time saves half an hour.
