    Sick Jack Russell

I have an 11 year old Jack Russell female. About a year ago we began to notice a very horrible smelling gas. She was crop dusting us all the time! But about 6 months she began to have chronic diarrhea. Straight liquid. She began losing weight. Our vet saw her several times and tried everything. Blood work, scans, every medicine, and on and on. Nothing worked. About two weeks ago we took her to the Blue Pearl in Louisville. More blood work, scans. Still no answer. She is wasting away in front of our eyes. They say possible pancreatitis. IBS. Different medicine. Nothing is working. She has blood in her stool now. Does anyone know anything about this? Help us.

Hi Beth -- we had a similar issue with our 12 year old JRT female. They thought pancreatitis and ran lots of tests. For some reason, her body was absorbing protein. They never figured out what it was, but we changed her diet (to a Hills prescription chicken stew, high protein, low fat) and we also gave her rounds of prednisone -- and that seemed to work. She put weight back on and the diarrhea stopped.
Not sure if its the same, but possibly worth asking about.
