Posting this on behalf of a friend, she has just lost her GSD boy (only 4 mths after loosing her old GSD girl) to bloat, They are feeling a little raw at the moment, going for 2 to none is such a short time. So they have decided to look for a puppy, cant cope without having one in the house. Now this is where I need a little help, they have already looked at two litters, one was definetely not suitable, BYB, and the other, they have reservations about, went to see litter, the breeder does not show, but has a farm full of kennels with GSD `s 3 or 4 to a pen . She says she has hip scored the Dam, (nothing else) but not the Sire, yet owns both I think.... My friend feels a little uneasy over this, (after being educated , by me) about BYB`s..she is now having second thoughts about buying one of these pups........ Her dog had severe HD , (she new no better when buying him in the past) so wants a healthy puppy....not only that she has a 2 mth old grandchild so the temperament of the puppy is paramount. I think Romi, was of the German variety ( long sloping back, short coated) correct me if I am wrong. they would like the same type again. I dont know anything about GSD `s so cant point her in the right direction regardes ethical breeders, she has contacted the KC , (where she got the second breeder from) she has also contacted the GSD club , (is waiting for them to reply) So if any of you GSD owners, or anyone who can recommend a breeder , I would be very grateful to here from you. Thanks a lot.
Hi Sorry about your friends loss that is such a shame. I have a GSD with nervous aggression and double hip dysplacia and I got him from a none reputable breeder. I have just reserved a new puppy who was born on Wednesday from a very reputable breeder in Nottingham. I am not sure if I am allowed to post it here but if you want details PM me and I will happily tell you the details I dont know if all pups are reserved but she had 11 mel x
If your friends are looking for an International type GSD depending where they live there made be a GSD club near that would be able to help The Breed Council has a list of member clubs please be aware that some of the clubs promote the Alsatian type of GSD, few of whose members hip score or do any other type of health testing
Thank you for all your replys... my friend has found a breeder who happens to have a litter, recommended by melsgems (thanks for that) they are happy with the vibes they got from said breeder, spoke on the phone for an 1hr, ( and the grandsire has the same name as the dog thay just lostt, )they do all relevent tests, and temperament tests, so hopefully will have a little bundle in 8/9 wks time. Thanks again to those who helped. Just shows what a good site we have here.
thats great news , i hope it all works out for your friend after the tragic loss of her two beloved pets ,and they enjoy there ittle bundle of joy for many years to come xxdk
