Has no on told you that two female can fight to the death.

You should of got one of each sex and I strongly suggest that you have them both spayed as soon as possible to try to reduce their sex drive, because as soon as one of them comes into season you could end up with major problems on your hands.

    Totally !

Did the breeder have any experience at all of keeping bitches together or give you advice on such ?

Many an experienced owner have been totally caught out by having 2 bitches of different ages, let alone 2 sibling bitches of the same age !!

I've never heard of irish staffords before! Now I've looked them up. They're quite a handsome looking breed. :)

can i just add that i had 2staffs and a jrt,all bitches live together for 12yrs+,with no real probs.tbh i had the jrt from 7wks and the other two were not planned but rescued a few months apart from owners who were mistreating them.my jrt ruled the roost til she passed age 20.yes you have to have eyes in your back and relize that it cud turn nasty at any time and you may have to rehome one,but to say it cant work is not entirly true.its harder work but is not impossible.i know lots of people who own same sex staffies, dog gates and crates can be used also.just always seperate them wen left alone.

Nobody said it can't work !!!

The OP got these as siblings at the same time, which is different to your situation !

I've had same sexes, hell, lots of people do, but they go about it responsibly, by adding to their pack gradually, allowing each enough time for settling in, socialisation, interaction, hierarchial issues etc etc

Someone who is experienced would think little of getting 2 sibling sisters at the same time, but the OP came here with no idea, having done no research, hence the first question being, 'what should I expect ?'

not saying they havent been a plank for not doin research n gettin two siblings, but they have done it and at least posted askin for help etc,but as usual people jump straight on them instead of offering advice.even if you dont agree with the choice isnt it bloody better to help after all its done and the concern shud be for the dogs welfare and future,so why do sum on forums jump on people instead of offering help n advice.to me its more important to help make sure a owner is helped regardless of how stupid the dececion they have made.

huge numbers of people view this forum and never post, and topics like this do seem to get a lot of views.. so i think it is important that people are made aware of possible problems as it may benefit the welfare of dogs in the future.

    Absolutely ;-)

If we all had the "softly, softly, well it's done now" approach, many people reading would assume they would just receive help and sympathy for making mistakes they could and should have avoided !

Plus I fail to see where Anyone has jumped on them !!

From my experience you will need to exercise great care, have never found dogs a problem but have had to re-home a bitch and have found that although dogs will squabble they will a few moments later play with each other, bitches once they have fallen out never forget and hold a grudge for ever. And with a breed like IST there must always be the danger of a massive dog fight which you would have difficulty in stopping. So perhaps the best advice would be that once these bitches reach maturity you keep them either caged or in separate rooms when there is not a suitable adult in attendance or you could come home to a tragedy.

On the other hand, of course, you may find they live in perfect harmony through out their long and happy lives but I think you will be extremely lucky if this is what happens although for yours and your puppies sake I hope it does.

But research isn't about scanning the net  Research is talking to people, asking breeders, people who have had lots of experience with the breed etc, not a year's experience, when they are merely really still pups !!

Sorry to sound harsh, but that is not doing research or you would have been given all the down sides by your breeder !:001:

No. As many people have said, breed is irrelivent when it comes to 2 sibling bitches !

I hope yours are OK and get along fine, but your breeder should have had concerns and made you aware of what it can be like, as many people here (including myself) 'have' experienced.

Have always wondered why people have several dogs none of whom are living in the home. Have you bought these bitches just to breed from and if not why would you not want their company?

Agree that although people get two pups together and get away with it, it is not to be recommended, particularly with dogs that require a lot of attention which your IST will, both in basic training and exercise all of which will need to be done on a one to one basis, in the first year of their life a full time job.
