Doesn't look like a purebred Catahoula to me..lot of rescue shelters sell dogs as Catahoulas. Looks like a shepherd mix to me, maybe a Catahoula mix. And yes, they can run into trees, and climb trees..they are also bred to do treeing, baying raccoons and squirrels, but sometimes they become so gritty, they will climb the tree..

And about the Catabulldog, I just think, let a breed be a breed, why try to make designer dogs? Some people try to breed all working dogs together and create a working dogs which doens't know where to go with his energy/ intelligence..this doens't make the dogs happy! I will post a picture of a Hangin Tree Cowdog, a registered breed in USA. These are TOOOOOOOOO much to go anywhere else than on a farm working cattle or sheep!

For the people with us who own working dogs:

3/8 Border Collie for herding instinct and intelligence.
1/8 Catahoula for the ability to trail and find cattle, also for the slick hair coat and toughness.
1/4 Kelpie for endurance and also herding instinct and short hair.
1/4 Australian Shepherd, only a dog called Black Bear went into this breed.
He was an extremely tough dog with enormous ability.

Gorgeous dogs!! They look lovely and their eyes are amazing!
I'm wondering, do all catahoulas have the merle gene? Does that pose any risks in breeding?

    I don't think so.

Danielle is a breeder, but I think she has moved to Australia. I think she has a breeder under her wing in the UK, but I am not sure who it is.

I emailed Danielle, hopefully she will pop on if she gets a moment.

Thank you so much. I fell in love with the breed the moment I saw one and hopefully want to buy one in England and then import one to breed with so more are available in the uk for other people to love! I know it's not gonna be cheap but I MUST have one! Thanks

Thank you very much for your nice reply :)
So, now info about my girls :)
    Easy
    • Easy to Love Dogo dogino
    • Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog
    • *26.5.2012
    • red patchwork
    • 55 cm/24 kg
    • She's my sweetheart. She loves tennis balls and long trips with our friend (she has got a female Weimaraner).
    • catahoulas are really special dogs, when you understand them, there're the best dogs. You can do a lot of sports with them. Me and Easy go to long trips ( dogtrekking), dog scootering and little bit dog dancing. In Czech they do coursing, agility, obedience, rescues and so much more .. :)
    Dolly
    • Dolly Ruby Star
    • Amercan cocker spaniel
    • *14.4.2005
    • golden-white
    • 35 cm(?)/10-11 kg
    • She loves relaxing and eating. She's really quiet and kind - love everyone who has a food. But when she goues with us to long walk, she's so fast :)

I'll continually add photos .. and so sorry for my english

Thanks for the info Carol :)

I replied to your thread in the Contact Admin section - if you could start a thread in the breed sections posting your photos, I can feature one from those and then link back to the thread - so feel free to add as much info and photos to your thread as you like :)

Agree with Bonni, your English is fine!
