Does your staffy love other dogs?

Since I was little I have always had a soft spot for staffies!
They get a bad rep but I still really like them.

Thing is though, I have only ever met one staffy who wasn't aggressive to other dogs

Alfie loves to play rougher with dogs that are generally bigger than him so every time we see a staffy I am like oo yay maybe this one can play with him! But they never do.. all but one of the owners I have met/talked to put theirs back on a lead/are already on a lead and say they don't like other dogs....

So my question is... does your staffy love other dogs?
Or does anyone know any that love dogs?

They are such lovely happy looking dogs I always want to say hello but normally they are back on lead and being dragged away with the owner saying they don't like other dogs :-(

Mine gets on fine with other dogs, he lives with other dogs and welcomes all the fosters in and willingly shares his toys etc. He would happily rough and tumble with the rest of the rabble all day long. Out and about he's never put back on lead but isn't particularly interested in other dogs either, if they come over he will have a sniff etc but generally shows no real interest in them but that's quite common amongst dogs in multi dog households. He's certainly not aggressive to others though and knows not to react even when the other dog tries to cause trouble.

I haven't got one, there are quite a few on lead only ones around here, but some of Tilly's doggie offlead friends are staffies & I find that they are very mouthy face bitey/swing from neck when they play. Don't know if that's a staff play thing, but Tilly loves it anyway! then she'll go play with a collie totally differently like lay flat at 20 paces & who is gonna herd who! Or totally ignore each other if they have balls:lol:

We have a blue staffy that we walk, and he is the friendliest dog with literally everything I've ever had the pleaure of knowing.

He knows how to read situations amazingly well (he's only about 1.5years as well). He's a fantastic dog!

Yes absolutely! Mine loves other dogs.

Staffies can be absolutely fine with other dogs, alot will never have a problem at all. Unfortunately staffies themselves get attacked alot, and seem to develop the DA tendency very quickly and easily - so it can take just one bad experience with another dog for them and they then become very defensive - they are tenacious by nature and watching out for DA signs I think is the job of all responsible owners. For me in my experience I have found its not staffies that are the fight starters, but they are very quick to defend themselves and because of their strength the other dog generally doesnt fare well.

Staffies are major rough players - they love a good bit of rough and tumble and their play drive is generally quite high so I think the reason for a lot of spats is play getting out of hand and one dog getting hurt. I know that if another dog hurts my boy - he is very very very tolerant up until a point - and then he will give them a telling off. I tend not to let him get involved in rough play because of that but he absolutely loves walking with other dogs and running around.

It doesnt help that alot of people are prejudiced about them and wont let their dogs greet them either - which means alot are actually under socialised and dont get alot of positive experiences - i.e each time another dog comes along they get dragged off, so I think they build up a negative view of other dogs.

But in a nutshell, yes, my boy loves the company of other dogs!

    Aww that's lovely!

I always just feel it is a shame, but now as soon as I see a staffy I generally put alfie back on his lead, not because I don't want him to play, but because nearly all of the ones round here don't seem to like other dogs :(

Must admit I put my Staff on a lead and avoid other dog walkers not that my dog is antisocial I am. ;)

Seriously as far as I am concerned its not worth the trouble to mix with other owners or dogs.
My Staff does not love other dogs nor does she dislike them or aggresive to them. Pretty much she ignores them.

I think I am a bit like this, other dog owners are just too unpredictable.

We keep our boys on the lead as people react badly when they see them, i have seen people change thier direction just because they see us on the same path, I have never had such loving dogs - yes they play rough, but they are such softies xx

Coco loved my lot when she arrived and she seems to like other dogs. I do tend not to let her off-lead until the beach is clear of other dogs but that's just for my peace of mind really and I do the same with my other dogs and they're not staffies.:002:
