This is a screenshot from a recently published study by Chinese scientists, who have discovered that some Beagles have a genetic mutation found in humans who are on the autistic spectrum. The full report can be followed up on Google or similar and the article goes on to speak of further research. I know that this could be of importance for human health, but as a campaigner for getting Beagles out of UK research labs, I'm afraid that I can't stand the mental images that this conjures up.
Good article on scientific animal research: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/...ruelty-of-breeding-dogs-for-invasive-research Be aware it is descriptive.
WARNING!!. UNPLEASANT DETAILS OF THE CONDITIONS IN UNITS WHERE BEAGLES ARE BRED FOR RESEARCH. Yes, very similar reports from here. Of course 'our' MBR Beagles are an off shoot from Marshall BioResources, a US company. Instructions for which dog to mate to which bitch come from America. One good thing that Trump has done is to declare an end to animal testing in favour of more modern methods. I do hope he stands firm on this pledge. There are so many hurtful features of the horrific ways these Beagles are farmed. At MBR the breeding unit is referred to as the brothel. Are the Beagles in there the lucky ones? Not when they are bred continually, and when spent their organs and their blood is harvested for research. There is one area of MBR that has never seen a dog - it is the Play Area, equipped with unused plastic slides. The Beagles spend their lives in concrete pens, sleep on plastic platforms, drink from a metal nipple, and are fed on kibble which is discharged onto the same floor that they soil. Is it any wonder that they eat faeces and have severe repetitive behaviours. At weekends the staff work a four hour shift. This means that all of the Beagles are left for 20 hours. Nobody including the security staff have any access to the dog sheds. Poor bitch if you choose to whelp at that time! Camp Beagle has been occupying the roadside outside MBR for almost four years and have proof of all these claims. All this is before the four month puppies get packed off to the research labs! In the US things are no better, two Beagles died because they fell upside down into a cavity between wire pens. Please, please, may this end before I die. If ever there was a breed less suited to never seeing the sky, or putting a foot on grass, I don't know which. You really can be too gentle!
Thank you for sharing this. While I understand the potential benefits for human health, I can’t help but feel heartbroken knowing Beagles are being used this way. As someone who campaigns to get them out of UK labs, studies like this are deeply upsetting. We must push harder for humane, non-animal research alternatives.
