just wondered what all your GSD's are like with other dogs. mine was very well socialised but now i cant trust him fully. he doesn;t seem to like black dogs and doesn't like other dogs coming near his ball. once he knows them (have to introduse them slowly) he is fine
All of my GSD's (all passed now :-( ) were always great with other dogs both in and out of our home. I could always have people to stay with their dogs without having to worry about how mine would be with them. I currently have 3 GSD crosses and they are the same.
Zak is fine when he is allowed to greet them in his own time ie when they don't run up to him and jump on him, he has HD and is quite nervous about being jumped on as he knows it will hurt, so can get snappy if they are round his rear Zeita just thinks every dog is on this planet to play with her and loves every dog that is in sight
It depends on the temperament and history of the dog. GSD`s are not particularly prone to aggression if socialised properly. However, they do bond closely with their handler and are very good at picking up tension and also sometimes take it upon themselves to control their owners`s space - as well as their own. Also sometimes all black or very hairy dogs are difficult to `read` so she may be more suspicious of them. One of mine couldn`t stand old English`s or or similar dogs (till she got to know them)
Zeita just thinks every dog is on this planet to play with her and loves every dog that is in sight[/QUOTE] i cant tell sometimes if mine is playing or being nasty. with some smaller dogs he runs after them and tries to bite the top of the neck, could this be play. hes never injured another dog
Of my current 2 Zandi is fine and thinks all dogs are friends, unless provoked, ie if attacked will defend himself. Alfe does not like Bull Breeds or xBullbreeds and white dogs, but that is not through lack of socialisation it is because the high number of attacks on him by these breeds and crosses.
Both of mine are o.k. But, if the other Dog was to go to far with them, they'd both stick up for themselves rather than run. They are however very protective of the car & don't like strange dogs getting too near.:?
Love the pic, the new friend is gorgeous Anyway, back to the topic Kahn unfortunately has fear aggression whilst out, he used to be great but when he was a youngster he was attacked, and ever since he has decided it best to attack first when another dog come charging up Saying that, he has improved since we got Zoe as she goes up and meets all other dogs first! Also Kahn has never been a problem at agility training or shows, he just wants to play with everyone
Majority of mine have been fine, though my current bitch is a bit too possessive with her ball.Had one dog who was attacked when he was 15 months & badly hurt & he was unsafe off lead after that. Only other dog I had a problem with was the male who I had when I had my nervous breakdown & he had inappropriate growling & was very unsure, though he never actually fought with other dogs. Have to admit my biches apart from the last one & current one were not so good in their own territory with other bitches.
my bitch is all talk when out and about with other dogs - but a real scaredy cat deep down when push comes to shove - we were all out and bumped into a the guy from the farm up the road walking his four dogs ( cross breed, gsd and two large BC's ) Lola gave it the biggern and they all just strolled up to her to have a sniff and she legged it and didnt stop for about 200 yards! My little staff just wagged his tail and looked down the hill after her. She eventually walked back up the hill as me and the other two dogs walked down to meet her and alll the while she was peeking round my legs to see if i was being followed. One of the same BC's has a free pass to roam around the village and often use to slip into my garden as my staff has no territorial qualities whatsoever - but Lola has since got wise to him and was quite a different dog when she caught him clambering through the hedge into HER garden he hasnt been back since and she does regular patrols of her property!
Kodi is social when on and off lead except if a dog jumps up then she will react to the dog Chevy was the perfect dog to have when other dogs were about, he would ignore all dogs for his toy, but be social if they ran up to him, but since having him casterated, he is hell on legs if he see's a dog and will lay into it if given a chance, casteration took his brains away lol
i got to be honest - id be angry if someone took my charlies away ...and brainless come to think of it ha!
