Labradoodle, what are they like? General Chat

Does anyone have a Labradoodle? If so, what are they like please?

They are crossbreeds so they are different not just from one litter to the next but within a litter as there is so much variation in temperament, size, build, coat, [ and yes they do moult and are no more `hypoallergenic` than any other dog as it`s not coat that`s relevant in that regard, it`s skin dander and all dogs have skin ! ], you name it there are wide variations from dog to dog.

I had a rescued Lab x Poodle, [ I refuse to demean her by using the ridiculous designer name ;-) ], who was the sweetest girl ever born considering what she went through in her old life but many owners of this cross find their`s to be very difficult and not at all what they were conned into believing they were getting.

Hereditary illness is present in many due to lack of health testing including Addisons, Von Willebrand's disease, and of course HD which is no surprise due to putting breeds of such different builds together.

If you are wanting a dog of this crossbreeding I would advise going via rescue where at least they are assessed so you`ll know what the dog is like as an individual personality rather than go to one of the designer breeders as they only breed these`s dogs to profit from people prepared to pay really stupid money for a crossbreed which rescue`s are already full of.

I don't have ne but we have 5 or 6 coming to classes at the moment. They are all different in looks. They are all very intelligent and the majority of the ones we have are quiet demanding with it as they are so intelligent.

We have had two black ones who have been quite reserved, and two chocolates that were really scatty.

In all honestly, I would never in a million years buy this crossbreed as I don't like the whole fashion name things.

However, I have been "picked" to rescue a family's Labradoodle. They don't have the time for him (they have 4 kids, on of which has Downs) so are wanting to give him up. He is 17 months, un-neutered, fed on Bakers (until we have him) he is super friendly, submissive to other dogs, and seems pretty well behaved from what I could tell when I went to see him tonight.

and if you want a mutt then rescue one (mutt is the best breed - but not if you pay bad breeders to churn them out as fashion items)

He looks nice, just do research on both breeds that go into him and you will be fine

Awwwww he's lovely.
There are a few in one of the places we walk, a lot are exercised on lead as they have a poor recall, but not sure that is breed specific or just owner specific.
They are all lovely temeprament wise though.

The one you have posted pic of is stunning.
Does he have a name and are you rescuing and keeping?

I like them, as others have said, can be very different from dog to dog, there was 2 at a class I went to, both lovely settled boys, one I meet in the woods, cracker jack, pure mental, always on the lead.
I met 2 lurcher bedlington crosses the other night, they rag dolled Inka !! he just lay on the ground, didn't know what was happening to him, poor stinky.

I've seen one that I thought was a Saluki x

He's a super looking dog does HTM and is also an assistance dog.

Yep - but its a She!
She is smooth haired and has a very poodle shaped body (which I think is why people feel she is a Saluki X)

She has made a wonderfull assistance dog but taken a long time to grow up and mature.

Personally without all the politics, i really quite like them. And secretly id love a big shaggy dark GOLDENDOODLE!

Oh I know that fine All male animals here so not used to saying she. She was the first Labradoodle I'd seen in the flesh so to speak and still is

His name is Jasper and we are thinking of rescuing him yes. We just have to let the dogs meet and see how they get on

A friend of mine had one, he was fab, used to do ob & now is a very fast ag dog. He was comival & funny, clever & trainable, quite laid back with mental 5 minutes!!! lots of "poodle" moments!!!! yippee!
