Tashi doesn't have nearly as much fur as my GSDs and for the past few days has been almost constantly wearing her coat. Is there a coat I can buy that will definitely keep her warm? I know the coat she has will do that but in the evening she easily overheats. Then when I take her coat off she gets so cold so quickly.
Maybe you could try two thinner coats, rather than one thicker one, and add or remove one layer as required?
... didn't bother with coats with my old lurcher... guaranteed if i put one on he'd go for a swim (actually colder the weather the more likely he was to lol) ..he just used to run faster to keep warm..then huggle up in a snuggly ball when he got home
I have fleecy coats for my 2 lurchers and greyhound and then put a thinner waterproof one over the top. The two big boys wear Weatherbeeta coats that the rescue gave to us (but they can be bought online) and Jenny wears a coat I got from The Farm and Pet Place. Layers is your best bet then you can peel them off or add them as needed.
My neighbour has a greyhound, and she puts a jumper on her girl and then a waterproof jacket over that... she looks snuggly in that
Thanx. The coat Tashi has isn't that thick but does keep her warm. I think I'll get layers of bigger, waterproof coats.
i can verify that weatherbeeta are excellent as my lurcher wears hers during extreme cold or rain and she seems very happy with it, not cheap but good quality.
Try these: http://www.stores.ebay.co.ukdogs-clothing-on-parade and Blizzard Coats are great too, just google it.
Just one tip from me , dont buy a coat that velcro fastens across the dogs chest , I spent most of my time putting it back on especially when they are running and chasing a ball
I hadn't thought of the velcro issue. Tashi does do a lot of running though. having said that, the coat she already has, has very strong velcro along the back. Her front legs go into the coat (bit like short sleeves) and it does up all the way along from her neck to her tail. When she wears her harness I can open it up a little bit to attach her lead (don't like using her normla collar as her neck is so narrow). It also covers her chest and stomach too. The Weatherbeeta coats look very good. I don't really care what it costs so long as it's not extortionate. I'm happy to pay a fair amount to have the right coat for her. Better I do that than spend afortune on cheaper products I'm not happy with.
I find the velcro front doesnt work too well with the harness either . let me know what you find Tom could do with a new one that will stay on !!
