    GSD pups - how big?

I was just wondering what the average size is for a GSD pup. My pup is 12 weeks old and measures 17" at the shoulders and wieghs in at 13.75kg. People tell me that he is big when they see him and I was just wondering what the average siz is.

I havent measured them but average weight for a 3mth old GSD of WG showlines is approx 14kg, so he is about right, dependent on his lines.

    Hi,

It depends on breeding and the background of the dog.

My big GSD (Zane - 14 months old) at 3 months old was 20.5Kg and 19 inches. He's still growing now and is big for the breed, so I reckon your pup will also be big given those figures.

My youngest GSD (Yiannis - 4 months old) weighs 16Kg and is 17 inches at the shoulder. he is fairly big but I don't think he'll ever be as big as Zane as he didn't have a great start. He was skinny when I got him after being starved and then being stray for a time. it takes no time at all for a young pup to lose weight and this can cause problems in later life, although fortunately he's as healthy as he could be.
His ears are as big as Zane's, so whether he'll grow into them as Zane has or whether he'll look like a fruit bat forever if he stops growing, I don't know.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with your pup. Sounds as though he's growing nicely.

My oh was convinced the pup has grown over the past few days so we measured him again and he is now over 18" - that is over an inch in less that a wk!!! I am so glad my kids dont grow that quick!!!!

I see alot of messages asking about hight and weight of thier dogs/pups and asking if thiers is normal
    Here are my rules

a is the dog healthy (happy, active dog with a shining coat is a good start)
b do you see his last 2 ribs (short haired dogs  )

Then you're on the right track

    The hight you can't change
his weight you can by excersising more or less and giving him more or less food

    Greetings

    Johan
