    Mastiff breed information on site

    Breedia currently lists:
    FOR MASTIFF
    Height
    Dogs:

    75 cm (29.5 ins)
    Bitches:
    68 cm (26.8 ins)
    Weight
    Dogs:

    72 kg (158 lbs)
    Bitches:
    68 kg (150 lbs)
    Colour
Apricot-fawn, silver-fawn, fawn, dark fawn-brindle. Muzzle, nose and ears black.

    More Accurate
Dog min height 30 in or 75 cm.
Bitch min height 27.5 in or 69 cm
    Dog weight 150lbs to 250+lbs or 68 to 113kg
    Bitch weight 120 to 200+lbs or 54 to 91kg
    Colour
Apricot, Fawn, , Fawn-brindle, Apricot-brindle. All should have a black mask: ears, face, nose. To different degrees. Also toenails dark, the darker the better.

200lbs or 90.7kgs is quite common in the breed for male. also 175lbs or 80kg is pretty common in females. This is a breed that has hit 343lbs or 155.6kg.
Irish Wolfhounds & Great Danes are commonly taller at the withers, While Mastiffs are commonly heavier and longer of body.
Don't think there has been a Champion Male with the AKC or UKC in the last 50 years under 225lbs or 102kg and for female 180lbs or 80.6kg
158 by most would be a small male and 150 a ok sized female, a good female size would be 165 or better.
    Exercise
It is vitally important that great care should be taken with Mastiff puppies. Puppies should be allowed to set their own limits and to rest when they want to. No formal exercise should be undertaken until around nine months of age and then it must be built up very gradually. Short, slow walks and gentle play, no stairs, no slippery floors, no jumping or rough-housing with other dogs or people will help to avoid future crippling damage to joints and bones. A physically slow maturing breed most Mastiffs do not complete growth until at least two years of age. The adult Mastiff may be inclined to be a trifle lazy but regular walks in the cooler parts of the day are necessary to maintain musculature and fitness.
Bolded and underlined should be 1 year.
General rule is 5 mins per month 3 months 15 mins or 6 months 30 mins (this is for daily walks) NO harness pulling with weight till 1 year. No jumping till 1 year. (You can train with harness only at 6 months, waiting till 9 months would be better.)

I wonder if the difference is between the UK Kennel Club standards and the American Kennel Club?

Unfortunately I don't know much about Mastiffs - except that I think they are magnificent creatures!

I think the info is based on the breed norm here in the UK and the UK kennel club. I find dogs are bigger in the US which may be why the sizes seam small to you. Any also your smaller breeds are smaller.

    FEET
The feet are large, rounded and compact, with well arched toes. Black nails are preferred.

    SIZE
Males: minimum of 30 inches, measured at the shoulder. Females: minimum of 27½, inches measured at the shoulder
That is from the UK breed standard only difference is silver-fawn colour wise, rather than both falling under fawn in the AKC standard.
Also the past 50 years is referring to the UK champions list. Both UK and AKC would consider a 158lb male mastiff on the small side. Zorba and Cromwell to of the largest mastiffs ever are both UK.

Rockport & Beowulf 2 of the best known breeders are both US and UK mastiffs.
While yes US buyers seem to always want that 250+, both places 200lb Dogs are fairly common.

We generally go by the KC breed standard LMost, though often take into consideration international breed standards as well.

Are the stats in your posts from the AKC or some other source?

Both. Only real difference between AKC and KC breed standard is AKC includes silver-fawn as just fawn.

references are: (First 2 are UK, bottom 2 are US. ) (MCOA the last I'm a member of)
You will find all of them list 30in and 27 1/2in as the min heights not the average, all also list either black or dark nails) min weight according to where you check is 140 or 150 for a male. average would be around 190 and female min weight is 120lbs which would put the average around 160.

I've noticed the same with Shar-Pei. The UK and US Kennel Club breed standard is 18 to 20 inches (46 to 51 cms) in height and 40 to 65 pounds (18 to 27 kgs) in weight with Pei bred in the States being on the larger size whilst Pei bred from European stock ie Hungary, Slovakia, Romania etc are smaller. Georgina at 15 months old is now fully grown ... her father was bred in Serbia and her mother in Hungary from a Russian line and she is 18 inches (46cm) tall and weighs 40 pounds (18 kgs) which from the 10 or so other Pei I've seen over here seems to be the norm.
