...this morning we went to a new field, it was out in Bilbrook. It was lovely, loads of dogs and EVERYONE we passed said "Good morning"!!! This NEVER happens in my area! It was a lovely walk and I might get the bus up there again. Anyway, Axel really enjoyed meeting the dogs and saying hello, it's normally pot luck if he meets dogs on our general walks, and one little terrier came running up and got Axel running...he ran his little heart out and the little dog hot in pursuit, then the little guy gave up and went off to play chase with a dog suited to his speed...Axel didn't even notice bless him and just did his usual 2 laps and came and chilled near me. I just wish I knew some Greyhound/Lurcher owners round here who have dogs who can be off-lead so Axel can have a run with dogs who don't give up and he can have a proper run with! Anyone else find their pointy dog is leaving others eating their dust and losing potential friends? This happens to Axel pretty much every time. It was months ago we last found a Lurcher for him to run with (Hint: Chaz, move to Wolverhampton! )
Hi Mel , its open weekend at Monmore tomoro , 10-1230 , Axel can run in the field with Bella and/or Tom if you are able to make it ! ;0-)
I can't on Sundays as I have commitments every Sunday. Do they ever do them on Saturdays as I'd love to!!!
Oh I wish you and axel lived closer so he could come out with the 2 ex racers I walk ( I put some piccies up, Zeus is a black GH too Didnt know if you had seen them! http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=151726)
Yes last weekend of every month Sat and Sun and also welcome to come for a run with mine any other time if you can get over my way ;-)
Gorgeous boys! Yeah, I need some more ex-racers living closer! So it was open today?! Darn it! I'd have to get hubbie to drop me off one Sayurday, as no buses go there....I can't wait to be able to drive!
Oh how I wish you and Axel lived near us! he would love to run with Guinness and Guinness would love it too! Maybe you need a second dog?????!!!! Hint hint!!
He would love that! I'd love a second dog...but sadly it's just not an option right now for many reasons How I wish though. I think he'd LOVE a girlfriend!
Awww - we've got a tiny weeny spaniel pup around here who's desperate for a dog to play chaseys with her and spends hours trying to egg Nancy on, bowing, wiggling her bum, running circles around her screaming "chase me chase me chase me" - and poor Nancy's not allowed off the lead cos she's new, still working on her learning her name and has no recall! Layton likes to pick games of chasey with greyhounds too - but rapidly gets left in the dust by them and looks most confused! I need to find a fenced in field so that she can let herself go a bit!
Have you got any tennis courts near you? I used them first with Axel. He wasn't allowed off properly until almost 6 months after we got him. I hope she gets to let off some steam soon!
Hint there was a gorgeous black with white flecks around five year old lovely Greyhound at the sanctuary I was playing with on Friday called Lenny wish I could be closer though as Diesel needs another dog to run with, Honeys getting more clingy on walks, so instead of running together faster and taking breaks every now and again Diesel keeps going as he's not following another dog for hints (he really is simple) and is more and more often getting a stiff front leg where his deformed toe is so he has to be onlead more, although I met another Lurcher who would be perfect for me Diesel, less then a year old and mad as a hatter, but luckiky for him even if I could have another dog he had only be in the sanctuary for a week and left for his new home yesterday! Just gonna look on the other thread though as I checked it when I didn't have time to reply and it slipped my mind but I think Diesel and Axel would be great together! I mean even their names are both related to vechles lol.
I would love to be able to be searching for another Greyhound for him, sadly right now I can't. One day hopefully. Poor Diesel, I didn't know about his deformed toe, does it cause him pain? Bless him. I hope they can get together one day to run, bet they'd love it! Axel would tire long before Diesel, but he may beat him on the first lap
Diesel would love the challenge of a dog thats faster then him but would protest when he stops lol, his toe doesn't normally cause him pain, but if he overdos it, it can become stiff and then it does, but generally when running with another fastie he's fine as they stop for breath every now and again so he does too, but if hes on his own no-one tells him to stop so he just runs 3/4 or full speed most of the walk and chases mice, and then he can suffer with it, but he just doesn't make the connection, so if Honey doesn't think too much of running he has to be onlead every now and again to get him to slow down a bit and give his foot a bit of a rest from working so hard all the time.
