Tikva, her yo-yo weight - and chaos!

After the minor scare when Tikva was weighed 3-months ago and had lost 400gm, going down from 7kg to 6.6kg, I debated whether to increase her food or not, but as she was still acting like a 6-month old lunatic puppy at times, and never asked for more food, and as Ram had not been worried about either her weight or her general health, I decided to leave things as they were.

Today we had utter chaos, all more-or-less at the same time. Two women from the Welfare Department at the Local Authority turned up, having only just discovered that I have been on their books since I moved onto the Moshav 30-years ago [my file having been transferred from Ashqelon Municipality when I moved], with 1001 questions.

Five minutes later Ram turned up while I was demonstrating to one of them that yes, I can move around my bungalow by myself, and yes, I can cook for myself [at which point she opened my fridge/freezer and saw neatly stacked and labelled containers of food - I cook in bulk when I have the energy], and no I do not need help in showering or getting dressed...

[during this, Ram squeezed past with Tikva under his arm, to get through to the en suite to weigh her]...

and my phone rang. It was the nice young man from the supermarket about my order which is due this evening so I could hardly ask him to please call back as Thursday is their busiest day.

Tikva might have lost 400gm last time, but without having increased her food, the little booga has not only gained that 400 but added another 200, so is now 7.2kg, and has been given a clean bill of health!

And I still have no idea what 999 of the questions the welfare people were going to ask me were going to be, but Tikva was absolutely in her element with all the kerfuffle! Me? I am totally kernakkered!

Aww bless you, well at least they went away knowing that you and the dog was fed, watered, happy and can look after yourself and that you was no cause for concern, but with the sounds of it, it’s like the UK and they will get back around to you in the next 30 odd years to ask the other 999 questions they couldn’t ask because the paperwork has gone to the bottom of the pile again. It’s diabolical here, to the fact that nobody talks to each other and they don’t bother reading notes or even updating them on a computer anymore.

I really do not know what they expected, Toni, probably a little old woman woman in a wheelchair who is totally helpless, and while I am old and a chair user, I am far from helpless. I might be old and physically disabled but there is nothing wrong with my mental acuity.

I do wish they would have phoned and not just turned up though, as I knew Ram would be coming at around 2pm and I was also expecting the call from the supermarket as I had seen on their website that they were preparing my order.

Oh but it was such fun for Tikva! First two strange women turned up, one of whom turned out to be a dog lover so she got lots of cuddles [Tikva never lets me cuddle her :(] - and then her beloved Ram arrived!

But Tikva has had her Parkworm shot, her nails clipped, and I've got a Bravecto pill to give her at her dinner time this evening [the Drontal womer is not due until October]. And she is back to her normal weight!

And I got my usual hug from Ram!

Well you would like to think that it was courteous to call you first as you might not of been there anyway or you could of been busy with something else as you was, but alls well and ends well so to speak and tikva had a good day, so happy puppy, happy owner., it is annoying though when people turn up unexpectedly and you haven’t catered for the call.

More excitement for Tikva when the phone rang just before 7pm - the delivery driver saying he would be here in five minutes, and whereas she normally ignores the phone when it rings, whenever it is a delivery she always knows and starts barking excitedly even before I answer it. How does she know? Even if it is a different day/time slot, she knows every time. Then she rushes out waiting for the van and as soon as it appears and parks outside she comes back and stands half in, half out the doorway, wagging her tail and wiggling her body like mad, waiting for him to bring the bags in!

She is very good though, because as soon as he is near the door she comes and gets between my chair and the bookshelves so that she is out of his way as he brings the bags through to take them into the kitchen.

More than enough excitement for one day, I think!

clever girl knows who’s bringing the food for her, lol, they know more than what we think they know, it’s like my 2 here they know who’s car pulls up outside and then Beau looks out the window and if he wags his tail buddy will stand by the frontdoor as we all have our own cars they know who’s car is who’s, I will pull up and they will wait by the garage door as I will come through that way instead, my dad when he comes rings my door bell so they know that’s him and he has treats, so they both go berserk in excitement until he gets in and then they sit patiently waiting

No food for Tikva as she is raw fed and has the same food that I do, although she has hers raw and I prefer mine cooked!. Meat, mainly poultry, comes from Mikhaël who has a little shop in the old covered market in the old part of town, and who just happens to live a couple of houses from me so drops off whatever I want as and when I want. It is as fresh as fresh can be, and I buy in bulk and freeze!

Vegetables for both of us I buy frozen and that does come from the supermarket, but I stocked up last time as what I wanted was on special offer. But I will be sharing the bananas I got today with her though, as Tikki lurves 'nanas!

Oh my what a day Juli! I kept waiting for to add that your little neighbors stopped by for a visit too.

And I am very glad that you were able to prove to welfare that you my be old and in a chair but you are not feeble.

Tikva never lets me give her cuddles - I am only permitted to give her food! It was one of the social workers who gave her cuddles, and of course her beloved Ram - and was I relieved when he told me her weight. Much as I want her to stay on the slim side, losing that weight had worried me.

10 years ago - with a bigger belly than she has now!

As for the little girls next door, I love it when they come flying down the path and fling their arms round me. Arbel [the 9-year old] seems to want lots of hugs, always coming back for "just another one"! She is the quiet one, Alma [8 - there is one year between the two] takes after their mother, non-stop talk talk talk! The difference is that she talks so quickly and does not realise that I do not understand half of what she says, whereas Talia speaks fluent English so it is easier to understand her! Most of the time.

The whole family have adopted me as an honorary grandmother, which is lovely.

Yes, I was telling Tikva to LET you give her cuddles. :D

Punx won't let me give her cuddles - she growls and fights me. Unless we're at the vet office - then she's oh so sweet! I recorded her growling at me to prove to the staff that she's not that sweet little cat in real life.

The girls sound like a great joy to have around.

So glad that Tikva has put her weight back Juli. (We won't mention the extra 200g!). It's good that those ladies know about you now. We don't want supervising, but it's nice when someone asks how you are doing occasionally.
Tally isn't much of a cuddler either. She will tolerate sharing my chair for 10 minutes, but I do feel a bit jealous when she dances around visitors and snuggles up on their knees.

Tornado-dog is happy to visit you all and cuddle. Just make sure you are sitting and have back and neck support because when he cuddles he is right there in your face with his entire 60+lbs.

Haha yeah or Beau will be happy to come sit on your lap too, he loves a good cuddle with strangers and rolls over to give him belly rubs, if he’s on the floor he’s a big flopper especially with children when he sees them.
