For a small breed I don't think you can go wrong with Cairn Terriers - I'm sure there a few in rescues too. They are friendly, happy spunky little...

Jake doesn't bark at anything much in the garden. Ailsa will kick off at the fence if a truck or bike goes by quickly but usually he won't bother....
