    In need of guidance please!!!

    Hi everyone,

So I currently have a beautiful 5 month pedigree American akita.

However he is currently sitting at 17.5kg, which by looking at several posts online is considerably underweight. I was wondering...

Has anyone been in the same boat with their akita?

    Will he fill out/catch up?

    Any.help would be really appreciated

    Thankyou!

    Hi Sam
We have a Japanese Akita at the moment, but, my hubby has has 2 American Akitas ( in his previous life ) I showed him your post & photos, he said he think your boy looks underweight
What & how much are you feeding him ?
    Has he been wormed ?
Your vet should take a look at him & he will advise you probably better than me
Let me know though how you are getting on

    Malka and GsdSlave like this.
He looks fine to me, he is only a puppy so you don`t want him to carry to much weight whilst he is growing, you cant see any ribs and he looks healthy.

I would stop worrying what it says on the scales and go by look, he looks healthy and fit .

Don't be guided too much by weight charts, yes he is a bit below average but every dog is different ,bone structure/genetics ect can make a difference ,looking at the photos, he doesn't look underweight .
Personally I prefer to see pups on the slim side as it’s easier on growing bones and he looks like he is going through the ‘gangly’ stage.

Average being the mid-point between too light/too heavy, too thin/too fat, I would not worry about your handsome puppy.
