    Old Newbie with Questions

Howdy everyone, I'm one of those many that have came here with ankle biter frustrations. I have a 2 yr old Min Pin (Makoa) and 3 yr old female Dachshund/Beagle mix (Huny) that we recently rescued. The Min Pin stopped playing with me when we introduced the female. He grooms her and they are are inseparable. When I now showed the male the female started to snap (not biting) at the male after 6 months as if she "claimed me". The male now won't play with me and gets nervous if I rub his ears when she is around. The Male can mow the female over but gets on his back when they play. Did the female become the alpha or is the male just showing affection for her? Just not wanting to get bit? She is street smart and still skittish, not even knowing how to play. Are they establishing a hierarchy? Is this a question for a "whisperer" or others who have experience in some of these behaviors?

    Thanks much for any consideration,

    Andy

Sorry this has been missed, and I'm not actually sure what, 'When I now showed the male ...' means.
I don't think you will find anyone on here that subscribes to Alpha Theory, but think it is safe to assume that Makoa has accepted that Huny is going to make the decisions, and he seems to be showing her that he is happy to go along with that.
Six months is not a long time to re-socialise a streetwise rescue dog, and they could well start to play more equally in time. My two have been together for three years, and they are still teaching each other forms of communication and co-operative play. I wouldn't let Huny snap at your boy though, (however harmless), and if she does this around you, I would just put her on the floor, and break off the contact. Look for activities that they can enjoy doing together, - going for walks in new places is one of the best ways of building bonds between dogs.

Thank you so much for your thoughts, when I started to read how many others posts there were and how many were repsonding, it became clear the site was probably new and with not many members. In any case, those are good ideas without drama. Thanks

I agree with Carole, take them both to activities they loved so they would know they have similar interest, that way they both would be more closer and yes I also think Makoa has accepted that Huny is going to be the one leading him.
