Hi everyone! My family and I are getting our first German Shorthaired Pointer puppy at the end of the month, and we’re so excited. He’ll be about 8 weeks old when we bring him home. It’s actually a surprise for our 11‑year‑old son, so he doesn’t know yet — and we’re letting him choose the name once they meet. Our home has always been full of animals, especially dogs and cats, and we really value raising them in a loving, healthy, coexisting family environment. I’m here to learn everything I can — training tips, healthy routines, and how to give this little guy the happiest start in life. I’d love to connect with other GSP owners and hear your advice, stories, and anything you wish you knew when your pup was little. Thanks for having me!
Hi and congratulations on you’re new addition to your family, he looks a cutie, I’m sorry I don’t know much about gsp’s, but I do know they are working dogs and will probably need more mental stimulation with like (treats under plant pots, or scattered around the floor so they have to find them) ,rather than physical over all, I own two springers that are both working breeds and if they get bored will destroy thing's be it shoes, toys and anything laying around, my 6 month old has already had 3 pairs of flip flops and numerous other things that were not out of the way. My 41/2 year old was never this destructive, haha hyper yes but never destroyed anything other than his own toys. But I’m sure someone will be able to guide you a little more than myself, good luck on your journey.
