To reply to the OP When I was considering a second dog I came across these, someone mentioned them on this site, and I thought they looked fantastic. I love the Northern breeds but knew that I wasn't a suitable owner for a Husky or Malamute so I did the Google thing and found this... http://www.alaskankleekai.com/spurlin/index.htm A quote from the "breed's" founder... "Breed the best, and cull the rest." With my now larger gene pool I began to see results of this hard core approach quickly and this served as encouragement to be even stricter with my breeding program. I know this is how things were done in the past but we are talking the 1980's and I have to say I am not comfortable with this. I did attempt to contact the Klee Kai Assoc of GB, but never received a response. http://www.alaskankleekai.co.uk/ I suppose how you feel about them depends on whether you think it is acceptable to try to create a new breed and whether culling perfectly healthy puppies is an acceptable way to go about this. I have met about 4 and all were very very barky and not very nice - 2 nervous aggressive and two were downright savage! (May be linked to the type of owner who chooses a dog like that or may be a bad combo) I see no point in them ..
Wow! 4! Do you mind if I ask where you met them? We're they all owned by the same people? It doesn't bode well that they all had bad temperaments. From what I can gather the point is to have a smaller version of a Husky that's more suitable as a companion pet. Which I have to say is something that appeals to me. (Not that I have any plans to get one! Two dogs is more than enough for me right now.) J
I am sure I posted on this earlier but its gone now???!?? ANyway.. its a silly idea.. miniature mals!! another make up breed with a new name for money... As far as I am aware they aren't recognised in this country..
No I met them all seperately - one I met at a TTouch day, one was at a HTM class, one I met randomly at a companion show and the other really bizarrely we met the day after the companion show at the shops, they were all owned by "not very dogwise" people
I met some last year at Paws In The Park and was hugely disappointed. They didn't really look like miniature huskies, and were horribly yappy and aggressive. Mick
Yes, I met it too, can say it was definatly not nervy or yappy and very well trained, lovely lil thing indeed.
never met one. I certianly love the look of them, but was alos put off reading about the breed origins.. I guess most breeds we know today must have started out with the same sort of practices, "Keep the best and cull the rest" But for such a new breed, started in the eighties, I can't help but find it shocking. They do look just the cutest little dogs though I mean, what's not to love If I ever thought to get a mini me version of my three, then I'd have to get one of these for Mini Kismet
That one looks like a fake cuddly one - it is adorable! The ones I met were nowhere near as attractive! Your photo is soooo cute!!!
I started a thread about these dogs some time ago, I still think they are very cute, no dout about it! After asking around and doing some/alot of research, I chose not to get one cos of the health problams within this "breed". But as I said, yes they are very cute
