Sorry couldnt help you much on the specifics as they arent my dogs, I just know the parents has have been tested for cocker and poodle related problems.

4 bitches, 3 from one breeder, and my mum and dad from a home breeder, her first litter and she wanted to make sure everything was done to a T. The 3 girls breeder only breeds cockerpoos.

Again I know the puppies were all frequently health checked but I wouldnt want to say specifics as I dont know.

The puppies should have been DNA tested for Cocker & Poodle conditions-which I very much doubt they did-most "designer"breeders don't even know of the existence of DNA testing

They are good breeders of this much I know. But I cant say what tests have been done because I just dont Know :(

I know both breeders breed because they love cockerpoos not the money. They have puppy contracts, home checking, welcome back the dog at any age-its actually in the contract should something go wrong, are tattood and microchipped, insured, tested, vet checked cant think what else at this time. So I dont think its fair to say just because someone breeds crossed breeds they dont care or dont know although I imagine many will just the same its disgusting there are still puppy farms. Some of the breeders just specialise in that cross breed in the hope to further the breed, I know a few that are trying to get the KC approved but of course this will never happen as you cant have a next generation cross the same as the first.

But thats just my opinion because I have had a good history of cross breeds because we spend the time looking for them. My partners mum actually drives to South of England although we stay in central scotland for her dogs and plans to buy a fourth from the same breeder because they are such a good breeder rather than settle for one up north. The breeder actually gives her pups not at full price because they have got to know each other so well and she knows the drive that Janis makes for them and that they will be well cared for. She also takes anote of the colour variations that Janis is looking for and if one turns up she contacts her straight away.

But this is all vey of topic anyway. I wish Cavs didnt have there health associated problems as they are such a fantastic breed.

Sorry but they are not a breed & never will be because they are not being bred for any reason, the silly name sells the, along with the fantasy that they are healthy because they are crossbreeds.

Good luck to your family in encouraging this breeder to continue breeding cross breeds-the puppies are never predictable in type of course, that takes years & years of breeding from F1, F2, F3 etc generations & ruthlessly culling those that do not meet the health standards from the gene pool-which negates the cross breeding diversity :-(

Well then Im sorry you can't actually say there good breeders, If they dont test their not decent breeders. You dont know If they test or not.

Mind you no decent breeders would cross breed anyway!

I wonder what It Is they love? Because no two pups will be the same !?!?!

They may have puppy contracts and take pups back ect, It doesnt make them ethical, If they dont do other stuff.
No one has stated that cross breeders dont care, But im yet to find a cross breeder that I aprove off that does ALL things responsibly and correct.

So If you know that, how comes these breeders dont? and keep breeding for no reason what so ever?
You can't further a cross breed, would take many many generations to even get a type, and while people wont test or use dogs of the same build, height ect .. They will never breed a certain type. There breeding for no reason..Face it.

Yes just your opinion. You having good history with them Is just that your history with dogs you have been around.

They dont have to If people carry on to health test for many generations to come. But lets face facts, cross breeding to Poodles and what not, will NEVER improve the health of Cavs!

Thanks you are right they are not a pedigree breed but its still a dog in its own right and I dont see it being any different from any other, mutt pedigree show working doesnt matter to me as I say as long as it is happy and healthy.

They are supporting responsible people who happend to want to breed two seperate breeds, its just lucky for them there is a market for them. Id rather they bought a "cockerpoo" from a responsible person who enjoys the puppies they produce than a puppy farm who dont give two craps what happens to the dog. Im confused as to the ruthless culling as I believe that to have been the case with many pedigree's in the beginning. But tbh I really dont want to talk about this anymore, I dont own them it makes no difference to me in either way Im just saying the experience I have had with them as opposed to standardising every crossbreeder and its not on topic.

Im sorry you have such strong opinions regarding these dogs, they are actually lovely little dogs. But it makes no difference either way and the breeding of poodle crosses is totally irrelavent to this thread I was just saying something which I personally would take to be an option if I wanted to own another Cav like dog. But thats just me everyone is different.

Responsible breeders, hmmm I wonder how many litters a year are produced, what health tests are done on both parents and pups, living conditions, why the breeder breeds apart from she loves them.. stupied answer that is, we all love our dogs, but wont all go onto breed them.

There are many things that makes a decent breeder, You dont even know all the answers yourself. I would'nt like to comment on this breeder with out knowing all facts. But I dont agree with cross breeding (Other than for health)!!

It might not matter to you as long as the dogs are happy and healthy but for others, how their brought into the world and by whom is a very important thing.

Your right this thread is off topic now, Maybe a mod will split the thread, although there a plenty the same.

I dont know, I dont breed them. I know they test I just dont know which tests because I dont own them, if it matters that much I can go find out but tbh I cant say im that bothered as I know the dogs are all healthy.

They love the dogs as they are...I love many a variety of breed does that make me wrong?

They breed because they like "cockerpoos" I really cant say any more than that.

Sorry but I wont be posting back on this thread and perhaps not this forum. It is just a point of view, I dont feel I need to prove it to this extent and have every word Ive said examined with such scrutiny, you have said why you's dont agree with poodle crossing I have said my experience with them surely that should be that, can we not just agree to disagree?

I was just trying to offer an alternative didnt realise there would be such a backlash and thats fine for you's. Im not saying for everyone to go out and get poodle crosses lol I dont even wont one myself but Cavs tend to be an unhealthy breed.

Sorry I should have said that I do care how they are brought into the world as well but again irrelevant. Would never ever ever buy from a puppy farmer

Im not that bothered, Just stating that I've never seen a decent cross breeder who tests and I have seen many! ;)

No you dont know their healthy unless you can do dna testing from just looking at a dog! :? If so you could visit here! I still need two pra/prcd and Glaucoma tests done!

I love loads of different dogs, even some cross breeds have taken my eye! will I own one, never because I wont support the breeders.

So they breed for their own selfish gain, because they like them. nothing more nothing less!

You can have an opinion, Your posts where picked apart because It was rather miss leading.

People involved in rescue have seen the massive fall down from this great demand on poodles crosses and the like, and it aint a pretty site!

So because Cavs can be un-healthy, the advice is go to a breed that crosses? not from me its not, its do your research, perpare yourself and find a decent breeder that tests!

You dont have to stop posting, no one would want that, This is a big forum, and well all have different opions, we dont always agree, makes not one of us better than the other!

lol yeh i need to be I work in an office at a comp majority of the day :(

Sorry needed to get away from this thread for two seconds. Think its hard to read a response' "tone" because 1. Im new and 2. no noone on the forum. The other forum I am a member of we all know each other reasonably well in person for the majority so much easier to understand people. Perhaps im too sensitive, I can be with regards to my dogs they mean the absolute world to me.

Yes It can be hard to read tones of posts. we all have different views, and the forum is a great way to say while we believe what we do :)
of course your dogs mean the world to you :)

Well, reading all these threads its really put me off getting a Cavalier! There are some pups for sale locally for £450.00 which have been vet health checked but I don't feel very confident about it now.
Can't go through any more heartache at the moment.
Looks like it may have to be a cocker or rescue cocker possibly. Springers are a bit too big and lively for me.
I don't want another terrier as we've had a Jack Russell and she hated other dogs/cats and was an escape artist, always on red alert too!

Really that is not my experience from owning 5 cavaliers, it's your opinion from your experience of owning how many Cavaliers ???

No breed or cross breed are the perfectly healthy dog, the perfectly healthy dog has yet to be born.

All dogs can have hidden genetic conditions, I had a X breed with HD-shouldn't be possible as crossbreeding is the way to produce healthy dogs isn't it ??

On the other hand I have a nearly 10 year old Cavalier, who has only ever been to the very for two acquired minor health problems !

I too would love a cavalier but the health problems really put me off, nearly every cavalier owner I have met recently has told me about a health problem.
I joined a Cavalier forum for information and advice and found some good health information there, but I was left feeling that if I found a sound, healthy pet I would be lucky.
I had a cavalier years ago, he wasn't yappy, loved exercise and was a lovely natured dog.
You will need to pay for a health tested dog, (I was quoted £650 for a MRI scanned pup) and it won't guarantee a long lived dog, but that could apply to a lot of breeds.
On the other hand, I would be quite happy for a spaniel cross of some kind but they are actually hard to find.

That would be most usual to have an under 6 months puppy scanned & as the scans cost a mimimum of £100 £550 is quite cheap for a Cavalier Puppy.

So many people believe Jemima Puddleduck's spiel that all Cavaliers are sick dogs-a total load of male cow manure-even my Cavalier who has SM has no clinical signs & at 9 years of age has just gone on heart medication-something that many older dogs whether they are pedigree or not have to do

Jodee UK im not the only one to have said them to be unhealthy so why pick out just me, I think they are fantastic dogs for goodness sake. They are the most unhealthy breed in the UK supposidly. I have never said all Cavs to be unhealthy, I say the tend to be and most are due to poor breeding, good for you having all healthy Im really really glad for you. I have never said all crossbreeds to be healthy either. I have actually never made any comment which I have said to be completely correct 100% of the time.

I dont want to argue this so would people please get off my back I bloody love the dogs but there is nothing worse than the heart and nurological problems many of the breed face. Why could you not have just said all your dogs have been healthy?
