    Black spots suddenly developed

    Hi Everyone,
I am fostering a 5 year old male Shih Tzu who has not yet been neutered. He has suddenly developed black spots/patches all over his skin in the course of just a few days. (He was found as a stray and his hair was matted so animal control shaved him nearly down to his skin so we can see the spots developing both on his underside and underneath the fur on the rest of his body.) The only change we have made in his care is that we put him on a 14 day course of Doxycycline 100 mg a week ago to treat a strongly suspected case of Kennel Cough. I can't find any research that this would be a side effect to the antibiotic.

The skin is not dry and he does not seem to be particularly itchy. And this doesn't seem to be impacting his appetite or energy level.

We are trying to get him to see a vet but it is taking quite a bit of time to schedule it through the foster agency.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?
