Has Anyone Got A Marbelton Boxer? Need Help!!!!!!!

    Hello all,

I have a beautiful Boxer bitch from Marbelton Kennels, born 2007. She is just wonderful and so well behaved but she is so very nervous and insecure. She has always been like this since I got her from the kennels at around 11 weeks old. I have brought her up and integrated her just like my other dog who is well-balanced. I have socialised her and taken her to puppy parties at the vets etc. She is aggressive towards other dogs and fear aggressive towards vets. When she is unwell or tired she can be aggressive towards family members. I recently talked to someone who said they believed she is massively overbred and I would not be able to do anything about her behaviour. This devastated me. I just want her to be a happy and balanced dog and not fearful of things. Please reply if you have any info/ advice/ anything. I am terribly upset because boxers temperament are meant to be playful, confident and fearless and, although she is playful with people once she has sussed them out, she is so alert (in an aggressive/protective manner) on walks around dogs and it is very upsetting.

    Thanks in advance guys

yes, I have a marbleton girl, how also shows some nervous aggression..

Dont know what you mean by over bred, I assume you mean to much interbreeding?? the gene pool for boxers is huge with many imports which I know Mary is a fan off.

Can you post or PM me your girls pedigree I might be able to give you some light on the sire or dam.

TBH,,,,,,,,, have you contacted Mary or Linda, to ask for advice and help.

Thank you so much for your reply. I don't know how to Pm you (new to this site today!) So I will have to do it on here... sire: champion marbelton star chase, dam: marbelton bottle blonde.
Yes I think the lady I spoke to meant inter-breeding, however I am not openly agreeing to this and pointing fingers. When I collected my puppy Mary was very caring and seemed very keen to make sure she was coming to a good home. I wasn't able to see the parents of my pup though which was the only thing that concerned me. I'm not judging or blaming- I would never get rid of her, I just want to help her with these behaviours, so am really appreciative of any help you can give.

    Inbreeding Values

    Sire
    Marbelton Star Chaser 0.3%

    Dam
    Marbelton Bottle Blonde 0.6%

    Predicted value of puppies 14.3%

    Breed Average 7.3%

    How to use this information
The inbreeding coefficient calculated is a guide and a measure to protect both the progeny from a litter and also for the overall breed. Just as important are considerations to temperament, health screening, breed type and characteristics.
To create improvements in genetic diversity, matings are encouraged if the predicted coefficient is less than the average inbreeding coefficient for the breed.
The average inbreeding coefficient for this breed is 7.3%.
This gives the predicted inbreeding coefficients of any puppies born if this mating were to go ahead or of existing progeny from the parents.
Inbreeding is defined as the mating of related individuals, whether they are closely or more distantly related. The inbreeding coefficient of an individual is the probability that two copies of the same gene have been inherited by an individual from a common founder, an ancestor shared by both parents.

Sometimes dogs are just slightly naturally more unsure than others.. of course good socialisation etc is important. I have a puppy (not a boxer), who was from a great breeder, all other puppes in the litter are fine, she was well socialised but shes still a nervous little dog. Through this she has become reactive to strangers and is terrified of traffic etc.

If I went back in time, sure I would socialise 10 times as much as I did and make sure she never even showed small amounts of nerves, but thats hindsight. I could have nipped it in the bud early I'm sure if only I knew what was to come, but thats not what happened

What I think I'm trying to say is that some dogs are just naturally more shy and reserved. Training can really help to bring them out of themselves and there are some great books on counter conditioning etc... I have made some really good progress in the last few months.
Lots of dogsey people can help (and have really helped me) if you want advice on your dog - post a question in the training and behavior section.

Star Chaser is a Zippo dog (import) and from Star Chasers pedigree your girl and mien have a common ancestor........ vorio van sahpos hoeve... (Belgiun import)), my girls daddy and your girls gg/grandaddy I think.

So half of your girls sires side will be imports.

If you research Marys breeding lines you will see a diversity in her lines, she likes imports.

i have met Vorio both at Marys and in his retirement home, he was far from nervous, but the we both have dogs from different bitches...what the dams line..???

To be honest, my girl is almost 9 now, and although no where as bad as she was in her younger days , is still a nervous wreck at times in different situations........maybe its genetic , or maybe its environmental , I dont really know, i gave up years ago trying o analyse it ,:? and lost faith in "trainers" along the way, we just manage her as best we can, and keep her away from situations that stress her out.

I know its not the answer you are looking for, with help you may be able to fix it, and I know how hard it is, specially when yo have another dog that is of sound temperament, you keep asking ...what you did wrong.....sometimes there is no answer, and you just have to get on with it.

Why did you not see the parents, I saw both they where both there to see .... Star chaser is a fabulous dog, but a handfull, you would neve have called him nervous:

I know loads of owners with Marbelton Boxers & they have excellent temperaments.

If you are having such difficulties why haven't you contacted Margaret about your problems instead of asking for help from strangers on the internet ? Has it taken you the best part of three years to ask for help ?

TBH puppy parties are not enough to socialize nor train any dog of any breed.

Training should start from day on 1 of ownership & socialization with people at the same time & dogs after the post vaccination period. It is virtually impossible to over socialize a puppy, as long as the socialization is controlled & safe for the puppy.

As for this"someone"who put all your dog's problems down to being too inbred - tosh - inbreeding can intensify genetic problems, but temperament & behaviour develop though environs & training(or lack of it)

    Thanks for responses.

In response to JoedeeUK, it has not taken me 3 years to ask for help, I have trained my dogs since day 1, spent countless amounts of money on various obedience courses and agility too which means they have been around strangers and other dogs pretty much constantly and consistently throughout their lives. Hence my question about what else I could try. Pardon me for asking on a dogs site to gain more knowledge and share stories in order to attempt to improve and help my dog. I had previously considered talking to the breeder but figured what would/could they do. I mean if, as many people have experienced, trainers cannot help these dogs and that is their job, what can a breeder do to help my dog be less aggressive! I'd also like to state that yes that "someone" was a random person and one opinion that upset me (you would get upset if a stranger who thought she was the next Cesar Millan told you to never have children because your dog was crazy) and I just wanted to get others opinions- hence contacting this site. Lastly Joedee, obviously temperament is affected by environment and experiences, but it is also in the breeding, that's why there are tests for this for breeders.

Jackbox- thank you for the info :) reducing her stress is what I've been doing too and just taking everything very gradually to build confidence. I wanted to meet the parents and see how they were with the breeder temperament wise etc but she didn't want to get them out of their outdoor runs. All in the past now though so never mind. Anyway thanks and I'll keep persevering!

Is it really ?? What proof do you have that temperament is genetically influenced ?

What tests are there that breeders have for their puppies ? Do you mean Volhard type tests or do you mean clinical/genetic tests ?

My mother bred a litter of GSDs(against my advice)from her very nervous GSD bitch, all the litter had amazing temperaments as they were carefully socialized & trained(not taken on courses for Obedience/agility for this, but done by their owners)from the day their eyes were open & they were really reared by my all German bitch from the moment their eyes opened & she, as most German pedigree dogs have/had, had a 150 % temperament as they are temperament tested before being passed for breeding . I very much doubt that your bitch's mother is fear aggressive so she will not have learnt from her.

You clearly don't rate the breeder's year's of experience & knowledge of her bloodlines if you don't think she could help you with your bitch & prefer the advice of "expert"behaviourizts/trainers

Dyane, to imply that temperament is not genetically influenced is so puerile that it beggars belief.

I cannot be bothered to reference the TOMES of scientifically researched, peer reviewed evidence to that fact, suffice to say it exists.

Even for you, this is a step too far as well you know it.

There are COUNTLESS examples of dogs at the top of their respective trees that have unsound temperaments (including several Obedience Champions in the UK) freely admitted to by their owners.

Yet they have been trained to the nth degree including how to pass the temperament test! ;)

You know what "JoedeeUK", if you read what I have stated all along I was not placing any blame anywhere for the fear-aggression and have been quite clear about this. I stupidly opened a thread following one jumped-up woman stating my dog was obviously over-bred/inter-bred whatever you want to call it and I wanted to seek out various opinions on this matter. And you, another jumped-up person, think you can imply and infer that I have not done the best by my dog. I have trained my dog MYSELF as well as doing SOCIAL ACTIVITIES such as obedience and agility.

Also, if you are so damn sure that there's nothing in the genes why did you think it was such a bad idea for your mother to breed off her insecure dog? And furthermore you have overtly agreed with my point by saying the dogs are temperament tested BEFORE breeding. Hence what I was saying. Do you think you understand that? I never said there were temperament tests for puppies, I wouldn't know, I'm not a breeder and nor would I want to be.

I forgot that any social network sites/ discussion boards had the odd judgmental and abusive member on and I think I'll steer clear from them because people like you don't know what the word "discussion" means and instead have to turn it into an offensive conversation whereby you attempt to pass judgment on me and things you just don't know about.

Thanks, you are absolutely right. This woman had told me there was nothing I could ever do about how she was and, although I don't believe she's this mad crazy dog, I just thought I'd send this out and attempt to set my mind at ease. We'll be alright though, take care :)

Dont worry there is always someone waiting to tell you what a crap owner you are:lol: ignore it and enjoy the site plenty of Boxer owners here for you talk too.

Ofcuase genetics can play a part in a dogs temperament...why do you think breeding from sound dogs is so important.

Im sure you will be OK, lets face it you have been working on her for 3 years. if you did not care about her , you could have got rid by now..........

Have to agree with you , cant see anywhere in your posts criticism of Mary Hambleton, or her breeding practices.

Keep posting and lets see your girl
