Update, my colleagues bought a puppy. Love him to bits. Sadly he has been diagnosed as having HD. He is off to see a specialist in a week or two. I believe that one side is the problem side. Please keep your fingers crossed for puppy.

Oh dear - I have just had a friends one staying. He has a thyroid problem but is doing very well at the moment.

I know they are cute pups but I honsetly can;t see the appeal of them. The noise drives me up the wall.

Hope the pup is OK.

Sorry to hear about the pup, how awful Generally tollers seem to be pretty good with hips on the whole so that is such a shame.

I had a toller, loved her to bits, fantastic dog. Sadly her conformation was rather poor for showing so she went back to her breeder as a working dog as, like Borderdawn says, they are very work orientated and need a job, I believe she excels as a gundog. She did have a litter last year... But there ya go...

Fantastic breed. Be warned though, they are addictive - not many people stick to just one!!
If you're really lucky you'll get one without the scream, my youngest has never screamed ;-) (My older dog makes up for it )

My friend has one called Millie and she is a fab dog , she had meningitis at 10 mths, which can happen to any breed, she recovered well and is just a little poppet

She is the most amazing colour , a lovely red and stunning looking

Sorry to hear about the pup with HD, I've only met one of these dogs, called Tollie lol, she wa beutiful, had such a rich fur colour, but was as mad as a hatter, and some of the noises she mad were out of this world. But you had to love her.

I have a dalmatian at the moment but am hoping to have a Toller pup next year, have my name on a waiting list with a breeder close by.

I have met a few recently and they are so striking in looks and such clever dogs. I wanted a dog with brains as well as beauty which sadly my dally is somewhat lacking in LOL!!

Am I right in believing I can be expected to pay circa £1,000 for a bitch puppy?

You need to ask the breeder whose list you are on what price they are charging so you don't get any surprises.

Also much more important than price is health tests. Make sure the parents have been hip scored and have DNA tests for eyes for both PRA and CEA (or are hereditarily clear). There are still some breeders who aren't doing the DNA tests and breeding dogs who will go blind. The annual eye tests aren't enough on their own.

Yes I have done my research on health problems in Toller's and the breeder concerned has had all the tests done. I would not be interested in buying any of their pups if they had not.

A new dog is a valuable part of the family and their health is of utmost important to a long happy life together.

Sorry, didn't realise I didn't keep you updated. Their vet was doom and gloom, spoke of replacement hips etc. When the went to see the specialist they were told as the dog was so young they didn't want to mess about with him and to simply not over excercise him and keep monitoring him.

err no one has answered the question about cost of a toller?

I have got an 8 week old puppy who has a KC Toller father and a border collie mother, and he is the most beautiful little thing. I don't have him to work, but as a family pet. I will keep you all informed as we go along how this works out

Ooh, a Red/Gypsy puppy? Bet he's gorgeous, I've seen photos of adults from previous litters and they've been stunning to look at.

Yes !! He is absolutely gorgeous - only got him yesterday morning. I feel extremely lucky to have him.
